Bought this vehicle awhile back. started research on engine block code. But could not locate this particular engine. I was told it is a 307,but after looking up the engine. I could not verify. the Numbers I have are 2cl547509. can anyone help me or direct me to another resource. that is more useful than the ones I found online.

Edit: the web archive website has a snapshot of the Mortec.com pages... http://web.archive.org/web/200805180...ww.mortec.com/ But again, you'll want to search the casting number.

http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php is a decent second best... It sounds like you've got the stamped number (or partial) from the front of the block on the passengers side. You'll have better luck decoding the casting number from the rear of the block on the drivers side. The casting number will narrow it down. The stamped code tells when the car was built, and what car the engine went with... Usually it's easier to find the casting codes, and they'll usually get you close enough to the engines identity.

Olds 307 or Chevy 307? If it's an Olds 307, you won't find any corresponding numbers on nastyz28, they only list Chevy blocks there.
