Maybe he had a problem with old cluster and this was one that was available and he stuck it in there.

RPo codes, if it says z28 it's a iroc, l98 is a 350 car. Lb9 is 305.

Re: possible fake iroc help!
he might have put that cluster in as a replacement but would someone go and change a the VIN under the windshield just to make it register as a car that it isnt doesnt seem worth it or did the rs come with a 350 in 88
Re: possible fake iroc help!
The first place to start documenting a car is the VIN number. The 8th digit is what you're looking for. If you're going to be looking at a lot of Camaros and Firebirds it pays to memorize the engine codes. For 1988 there aren't that many options, S is a 2.8L V6, E is a 5.0L V8 with throttle body injection, F is a 5.0L V8 with tuned port injection, 8 is a 5.7L V8 with tuned port injection.
In 88, you could get a base model Camaro Sport Coupe with the V6, or 305 TBI, and the Iroc with any of the available V8's. The RS was also available in some areas, but essentially it's just a 88 Sport Coupe with a monochrome paint job. The same engines were used in the RS as the base Camaro.

Re: possible fake iroc help!
i checked the vin and it tells me 5th spot is a p-z28 and the 8th spot is an 8-350. the car also has the rear disc even if its not a real iroc i think im gonna trade my ar-15 for it anyway it is in great shape no rot if its not an iroc ill use it for a donr for my 88 iroc 305 to get that back on the road either way a good investment on my end i believe what would you do in this situation im tired of not driving my camaros im having withdrawals

Re: possible fake iroc help!
I mean what do guys typically miss when doing a clone i cant find anything else other than the speedo and it seems that would be something you would change to get the whole look. It was the first thing i noticed when i started the car hopefully im reading into this to much and the original was broken and this was just the replacements
Re: possible fake iroc help!
If the VIN says it's a 350, it's an IROC-Z, end of story. It was the only Camaro available in 1988 with the 350. Who said they replaced the VIN to clone the car? Your post #5 above doesn't make sense. The logical answer to the whole story is that the cluster was replaced at some point. You're trying to think that the car was cloned and built around the only one item that's questionable, the cluster. It makes more sense that since that's the only thing wrong, it was swapped!
