Project Dirty Bird

I'm getting ready to begin work on my 1988 Firebird Formula project. It has a 305 TBI and 700R4 tranny. It will be a long process as funds are limited but I can't wait to get started. I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to automotive work so I have a lot to learn. I have started a blog (yeah I know... a blog) to track the progress. www.chadtheultimate.blogspot.com.

Here is my first question (yes, I did some searching first) are there any publications other than a haynes/chilton manual that I should get to help with the process?

(disclaimer: I couldn't find a general forum to post this in so please move if needed)

Get yourself a GM/HELM service manual. Anything else is just silly in comparison. Ebay is your source. Item number: 190495033275 doesn't look too bad. You can buy a new copy from www.helminc.com for about $100.

Re: Project Dirty Bird

Drew is correct, HELM made the original GM shop manuals the techs would have at dealerships.

Do NOT waste your money on a Chiltons--they suck.

Re: Project Dirty Bird

I didn't get a Helm manual but I did find a GM service manual that has been very helpful. I have also filled my shopping cart up at www.rockauto.com. The weather is supposed to be taking a turn for the better so hopefully the work can begin soon.

Re: Project Dirty Bird

Hi guys it's been awhile. I found I really needed to back up and start collecting the tools I need. That's where things have been for the last few months. Also, if there are any MN people looking for a local fbody forum there is a new one at www.mn-fbody.com/forum
