1988 RS V6

So it has been a long time since I have posted here, and I'm not even sure if this is the right section......

Anyways, I've been looking for a new 3rd gen ever since parting with my beautiful '91. I found an 88 RS with a V6 motor. It has a straight body and decent interior but does not run. The guy is asking $700. The plan for this is to pretty much strip it out, and build with a 5.3L for a budget drag car. Just wondering if this is a decent price for the base vehicle, and wondering what you all have paid for similar bodies that you were going to restore....

Thanks
Mike

Re: 1988 RS V6

I bought my 91 RS with a 305 T.B.I. non-running for $1000. However, I knew the lady that owned it and had my suspicions on what was really wrong with it. I knew it wasn't anything serious and lucked out- it was the small piece of fuel line that connects the fuel pump to the sending unit. The body was relatively straight and clean with just a little minor rust around the wheel wells. I now have under $3000 into her including new paint, tires, full tune-up, IROC wheels, headers, and some major exhaust work. If you plan on doing an engine swap and are mechanically inclined enough to do so, then the price sounds pretty good.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, you are the only one after 100+ views on ls1tech and here :P. Yea I figured it wasn't to bad, especially since I planned on replacing almost everything anyways.

Re: 1988 RS V6

Price sounds about right...I'd try to talk him down to maybe $400. That's what I paid for my 91 T/A in 2005, all there but needing paint, interior, and an engine.

Like you said, sounds like the perfect candidate to strip down and heavily modify. Nothing special, so you don't have to worry about ruining the value.
