87 Iroc Emblems, Striping and decals

Hey all

I have an 87 Iroc Z28 in white with the red interior. I am missing the front bumper emblem. I was looking online and there seems to be some descrepancy between the retailers as to the color of the original emblem. I was wondering if anyone knew which color came on it originally.

Also the striping/emblems on the side of the car are silver and black. Are those original? How can I tell? Also seems to be some descrepancy in the placing of the IrocZ decals on the side. In some pictures they are towards the front, some in the middle and some towards the back.

I know its alot of questions. Hopefully someone can enlighten me.

Thanks in advance. Brian

Can't help with the emblem. I honestly thought they were all the same. Red, while and blue vertical stripes with the Chevy logo on a black background at the bottom.

A buddy of mine had an '87 that had the silver and black striping you describe. Can't recall which way the colors were, but I think silver was on bottom. Funny that I really can't remember that given the number of times I looked at it.

The IROC-Z decals on the doors were placed toward the front of the doors from '85 - '87 then moved the rear in '88.

The emblem on the nose are all the same EXCEPT for the Z28s they are set on a silver background and the pegs on the back are in a different spot and they were on the front fender from 85- til 87 so yeah the front emblem is the only difference on that year Camaro its red white and blue stripes with a either white or silver bow-tie with black background

Modern day muscle sells all the different ones for third gens. There are quite a few different one for the 82-92 third gens. There are pictures of 4 different ones offered for sale along with the different rocker panel emblems.

Re: 87 Iroc Emblems, Striping and decals

Not sure what you mean by the pegs are in a different location on the Z28. The front end for all Z28s and IROC-Zs are the same from 1985-1992.

In the pic below, you will see what the 87 nose emblem looks like. You will see what the color combination is for the stripes. The 88+ cars had the black stripe on top. The emblems on the side are in th erocker panels, not the fenders and would be tri color silver/gray that say Z28. The 88+ IROC-Z emblems say IROC-Z. The door decal is towards the front of the car in 85-87 and to the rear in 88-90.

Re: 87 Iroc Emblems, Striping and decals

Berlinetta, Sport Coupe, Z28, etc there are several small differences in color between the bow tie and the background.

Iroc decals are positioned differently depending on the year, 85-87/88-90.

The black/gray stripes are normal for 85-87 also.

Re: 87 Iroc Emblems, Striping and decals

Those are both the same nose emblem, there's just no reflection on the bottom one to illustrate that the bow tie is chrome/silver. Silver on the charcoal gray background is normal for an Iroc. Sport Coupes had a silver bow tie on a silver background, Berlinetta's were gold, etc. Most people don't know the difference between one and another.

Re: 87 Iroc Emblems, Striping and decals

I also have an 87 Iroc, white w/red interior. A paintjob years ago by a previous owner had them buy a new 'Iroc' graphic on the doors, but they only bought the silver lower stripe. The black was done with electrical tape! I actually never noticed until I saw a section where the tape joined and could see an overlap. When I get it painted next year, I'll probably go with vinyl graphics, as nowadays, they are pretty much dead ringers for the original and so much less. The only thing I would research, if you want to keep the stripe color scheme correct, is the placement. Meaning, does black go on top w/silver on the bottom? Or, is the silver supposed to be on top w/black on the bottom? I've heard that after 87, this sequence may have changed.

I am in the same boat. I have a 1987 IROC Gold Wheel accents, saddle, tan, etc. interior with gold emblems on the GFX and rear bumper. I need to know what is the correct nose emblem color combination for my 5.0 305 TPI 5 speed. Can anybody help me sort this out?

Here is my VIN: 1G1FP21F5HL140391

Those two posted emblems are not the same, and the Gold is designated as being for the Berlinetta, unless someone can prove different.

Richard

There are three pics in this thread, and all three show the (exact same) correct emblem for an Iroc. The lighting, angles, etc are different but they're all exactly the same emblem.

Re: 87 Iroc Emblems, Striping and decals

Maybe I don't understand it. IROC has only one emblem? Berlinetta has only one emblem? RS has only one emblem? LT has only one emblem? Base Sport Coupe only has one emblem?

The two emblems I have referred to is the tri color with silver on black as the correct nose emblem for the IROC according to Year One, and the tri color with gold on gold as the correct nose emblem for the IROC according to Hawks 3rd Gen. They are not the same nose emblem, but are they both correct for the IROC?

Richard.

Re: 87 Iroc Emblems, Striping and decals

I'll try again to explain this, and then you're on your own.

This...

Name: be32.jpg
Views: 1161
Size: 7.5 KB

This...

Name: TP-6994.jpg
Views: 520
Size: 12.7 KB

And this...

Are all exactly the same emblem, the colors only look different because of the lighting, reflections, etc. Any appearance of different colors is an optical illusion. They're all a Red/White/Blue bar, with a silver bowtie in a charcoal background, which is correct for an Irocz.

There are different colors used on other models, like Silver on Silver on early Sport Coupes, and Gold on Gold for the Berlinetta. There's also Black on a Silver background, but right off hand I can't remember which model it came on. At any rate, the only emblems pictures in this thread are the typical Iroc emblem. They're three different pictures of the exact same emblem.
