what do you think it will be worth in for years.
So in four years my 89 firebird formula becomes an antique. I'm wondering if after I get it restored and modernized what you think it will be worth?

What are similar 1985 cars worth now, compared to what they were "worth" 4 years ago?
That's a glimpse into the future of yours.
Hint: nobody will care then about 89s any more than they do now, any more than they started caring any more about 85s this year compared to 4 years ago.
These cars just aren't "that kind" of car. They never have had "that kind" of value, and never will. You are wasting your time and money if you think otherwise, as adequately demonstrated by the history of their value up to this point. Their value lies ONLY in whatever pleasure they provide their owner, and not in some kind of intrinsic "desirability". Buy them, enjoy them, use them, drive them, have fun with them, in whatever way pleases you (which, if that means "restore and modernize" TO YOU, by all means go for it); just don't expect 60s muscle-car type of "value" in them. It's simply not there.

25 years makes no difference. In Minnesota, 20 years old gets collector plates.
Donning collector plates, my car is no more valuable than before. There is no magic age where a car increases in value overnight.
sofakingdom has it right, these cars simply will never be muscle car money. No car will again, with very, very few exceptions.

I bolded the word modernized...
You do know that with rare exceptions, the cars that are worth the most money are the bone stock , factory freash cars, don't you?
now, I can put a V8 in my RS and it will be worth more money. Make major changes to any real collectors car, and you are taking away its value to a real collector.
What are you planning on doing to it? yes, I know it's your car and you can do whatever you want to it, but if future value is important to you, leave it stock, but make it function good as new

At one time even 69 Z28's were just old used cars.... I had the oppurtunity to drive a bone stock 69 (not a Z) and it was not a pleasant experience. You really had to work at it. I didn't buy it and it was only 2 grand with 40,000 on the odometer. I think it is worth a little more now. I believe someday they will appreciatte, but I don't care. Mine aren't for sale, and I have much more into them than they're worth. I got my 88 back that was stolen and mildly wrecked and I have 3 people a week stop and ask if its for sale. The offers are up to 3 grand, not bad for a theft recovered wreck. They will always be worth something.
