How much would you pay for this '85 Z28??

Im starting to get curious how much my 1985 Z28 Camaro is worth. Ive owned it for 4 years and taken good care of her. Heres the info. It has exactly 82,100 miles on it, about 95% rust free with no serious concerns. Clean carfax and title. Overall very clean condition, has brand new tires, T-Tops that dont leak, its automatic transmission with a 5.7 TPI (Professional motor swap) the bumper even has the 5.7 badge on it. has Electric fans (car runs very cool all the time) power windows, power door locks never had any real issues, very quick. Has Daytona hood with aftermarket oil pressure gauge on the hood scoop, and hood pins. Has a vortex cat-back exhaust, sounds VERY good.Had new KYB shocks and other suspension components put in a few years ago, handles amazing. Always taken care of. Doesnt actually need anything to drive, but to be perfect heres what the car needs. Body Work. Right side has dents in the door and back fender, nothing crazy, but it bothers me personally. The body basically isnt perfect but the car can look like in the picture on any given day. And overall the things it need are small in comparison to how nice overall in condition it is. It does burn a pinch of oil on startup from leaky valve seals. The headliner needs to be put back up, it sags in spots. I think thats it. I would just like to see what other think of her and how much anyone would value it at or would be willing to pay if they were interested. (CAR IS NOT ACTUALLY FOR SALE) Yet... : / Here is a link of what the camaro looks and sounds like (youtube vid) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1kUBffUUt0

If anyone is just interested to see more pics, I have a TON of them. I love this Camaro and have been all kinds of places with it and took pics everywhere. Carshows too. (2ND pic was at a car show in my hometown)

It'll be tough to fetch what a similar mileage, "stock" example would bring. The mods you've done, probably won't appeal to everyone. That's something to consider. You should ask what you're comfortable selling it for, and go from there. An aftermarket hood alone isn't going to add a whole lot of value. All things to keep in mind. It might be exactly what someone is looking for.

I was thinking $3500-$4000 without seeing it. The 82k original miles would carry alot more weight if the car had the original engine.

Headliner and body costs subtract from a price of 3500 and you come up with that range puma1552 gave. You mentioned some "other suspension components". How many may give you the nudge over the 3K mark

Yeah, that hood would lower it's value for me. I'd have to find a stock hood, have it painted to match, and then have it put on. I would add that up and then subtract it from the price of the car.

Mods are a very personal touch.

Re: How much would you pay for this '85 Z28??

Its hard to put a price on someones car since you are asking Third gen owners here. You know what you have invested in it. Try to get at least 20% over your investment.

Its better to sell to someone that doesn't have one of these cars. I hope you follow what I'm saying here.

I have a $15,000----- thirty five hundred dollar 85 Z28 that I bought for my son back in 1995 for $1,400.00 with a blown engine.

I spent a ton of money on this Z and I tell people its not for sale. This car was his first hotrod in HS. It will eventually find its way back to him.

Final word,,,,You set the final price that you are comfortable with and see what happens. Did you ever see the movie "Christine"? The right buyer just may come along and pay what you are asking when you least expect it.

Re: How much would you pay for this '85 Z28??

This is probably not the best place to ask for values on a car. I have discovered that people on this board tend to undervalue what they have if its a stock, clean original, and overvalue it if its rough and/or heavily modified. Then again, I personally place a significant premium on originality and low miles. I'm the type that I want to be the one that's messed with mods, not a previous owner.

As I said on another board recently, TGO has a lot of young people with iffy cars that buy them, try to fix them cheap, get mad because they can't, then dump the car for half their investment...and the cycle continues. With that said, any solid, good running third gen should be worth $3k+.

I agree. This board tends to undervalue cars. High mileage cars that run safely and well yet need work due to wear and tear on the body/interior should fetch 2000-5000 in my opinion. If they're not running or need drivetrain work then we enter the sub-2k market. I've seen perfectly straight thirdgens that were either original survivors or quality restorations net 7-15k despite high miles (50-100k). And then there are the low mile original survivors or low mile restorations that can go 10-25k or even higher. But those transactions don't happen on TGO...

We have a ways to go if we ever expect these to be like 1st gens where just a rusting shell could net more money than some fully running thirdgens. Our body styles ran for 10 years, sold over a million units, and there are still plenty out there to pick from. We need another decade or two and a serious acceleration of parting/junking/crushing of what's left if we want our cars to appreciate. I don't want to see that parting/junking/crushing, though... I love thirdgens and bought mine to drive and preserve, not to invest and gamble.

Straight no Dings Dents ripples 4/5k. If u have body work that needs to be straightnd 2/2.5 k. I would hold on to it. Mark my word. That car is going to bring $ 1 day down the road.

YOU KNOW

I think this would be a Cool Seperate FORUM

like the tv Show..."Whats my Car worth"

Weather some1 quotes to High or Low it doesnt matter.
What i see here in this is alot of intersting Conversation that can come out of it.

I think im going to try to start somethin Somewhere.

.................THIRD GENS ..Whats My Car Worth......................

The only answer you should get here is, "Whatever someone is willing to pay!"

Nobody here is a qualified or certified appraiser with qualifications to appraise based on pictures alone.

Re: How much would you pay for this '85 Z28??

Realy?

Well i had fun with it. I thought his camaro was worth 4/5k Clean.
And honestly had fun workin my mind over to come up with what I thought the number should be. I dont think you u need to be an expert to do that. just a bit of thought .

Did you ever see that show "whats my car worth" on tv.Its Great.

2 guys give their thoughts on a car ...they come up with a number.and then wait and see what it goes for at auction.

Ill be 1 guy do we have another?
