Here you go Charlie,
This guy seems to have exactly the IROC you want. Yellow 85 L69 with the factory 3.73 gear and 5-speed. You should ask him if he wants to sell it. He seems to have enough thirdgens.

Wow, love it! That's pretty much the one I would like to have too if I could afford it. My "dream" IROC was like one I saw for sale a while back. 1987 yellow, tan leather interior looked original and perfect, power everything, T-Tops, 5.7L auto, original paint, decals in excellent condition, black louver hatch cover( I love the look of those on a yellow IROC ) , garage kept southern car, 37K miles. The seller was asking $10,995 for it, way out of my budget. The car sold and I don't know the final price but someone got a real beauty.

Re: I may go check out this IROC...
I just don't want to see you buy one, invest time and $$$ into it, THEN find the one you really wanted. That combo can be found...less than 6 months or so ago, there was an 87 LB9 5 speed in yellow on eBay that went for good money...right around 10k. I was comparing it to my 88 TA at the time, to see what a nice LB9 5 speed was going for.

Looks like I got one. Still working out the shipping details.
It's an '85, LB9/700R4/3.42, t-tops, tan cloth, all original, 40K miles.
Will post pics when it arrives.

Congrats Charlie!! Sound like you got a good one. Also glad you got an 85 TPI over the 86. The 85 TPI cars have the hotter camshaft in them and can run almost as fast times as a stock 350 tpi. My dad's 85 TPI blows the doors of my 88 TPI. The 85 is rated at 215hp instead of 190.

Re: I may go check out this IROC...
I just might. Perhaps a package deal with a COMPLETE blue LS Conteur interior and CAMARO CAMARO CAMRO fabric I never installed, very last GM OE in the box Crossfire molded hood insulation with aluminum foil backing available on planet Earth, and brand new, never used, blue GM floormats which I searched 3.5 years for.
Like I said, we'll see. 3 are maybe too many for me give adequate attention to.
But then again.........like Jay Leno says, "never sell anything"!

Thanks Brian. Yeah, the '85 TPIs were pretty quick, even with an automatic.

I said the same thing after I bought the 88 TA...yet 2 weeks later I was back on
Granted, I'm not buyng a damn thing, but it doesn't hurt to look, right?
Like I said to you in the PM, I MIGHT consider selling the 2 TAs if I found the absolutely perfect third gen Trans Am (5 speed '89-'92 GTA, or TTA), but I doubt that'll happen. I just like them both too much.

Re: I may go check out this IROC...
Beautiful, Charlie...beautiful. I've always thought the yellow with gold is a fantastic color combo. I agree, the tires do look too narrow. My 88 had 215s on it when I got it...needless to say, that changed fast.
Regarding your comment about 3 being too many to maintain, I can understand. I'm in the same boat. All I can say is, you'll never get bored, and if you go through 1 car start-to-finish (your IROC I'm sure is perfect, but say you finish your Z28 off before starting the IROC) before you work on another, it gets less crazy.
I say that, and yet I don't have a single car that is 100% perfect. The IROC is as close as it gets, and I still need to do things like fluid changes, plugs etc. You get used to it after awhile.
I like Jay Leno's comment
The way I look at it, if you still derive joy from it, you have a place to put it and you don't need the money, why not keep a car?

Just get rid of that pinstripe chaz and you've got a minty fresh ride...and I agree you got a great price on it, and that's even if you paid sticker for it, especially for up here in MN.

The pinstripe goes on day number one. The car needs a really good detailing, new center caps, some paint touch up, and a couple other things......

It's gonna need afew things besides what I mentioned. Sounds like the tranny might have a front seal leak, it's got some oddly sized Yokohama tires, and the driver's seat bolster has some rips, (like something got caught on it).
Lemme see if I can get this uploaded:

Nice! Lots of pics needed
Hope its exactly what you're expecting. I give you credit for buying something sight-unseen...I'm not sure I could do it, myself. The guy that bought my RS was really happy with my description...he posted in the sale thread after receiving it that I was "the first buyer that delivered to him a better car than what was described"
I guess years of appraising cars has made me a nit-picker, even with my own cars...

I felt better after talking to the previous owner though, (the one who traded it in on a new car), he was very forthcoming and friendly. I guess he even stopped by the dealership to drop off some touch up paint for it, before the shipper picked up the car. I'm expecting a solid, unmolested, original car which is not necessarilly perfect. We'll see.
You guys will for sure get a full report....
Re: I may go check out this IROC...
If it makes you feel better, I bought my Mustang sight unseen, and that's a black car with factory 13 year old paint. It turned out to be damn near mint, just as the pictures said, and everything is Motorcraft under the hood down to the battery. When I got it, I took it into a dealer for the most comprehensive inspection they had, and all it needed was a serpentine belt which I knew about, and a wheel stud (one was broken, noticed when checking the rear brakes). Other than that it was squeaky clean in/out/mechanically...don't regret buying it one bit, it's better than I expected.

Looks cool. I'm a sucker for "in progress" cars with primer and mismatched panels.
Re: I may go check out this IROC...
find it hard to believe the guy did nothing to this car as far as repairs, upkeep but he decided to replace a 85mph speedo with a 145mph one.been discussed for years here and the 145mph was randomly used in 86 and I don't think it mattered what engine the car had.Not my opinion but heard it both ways on this site.

BTW, it has a non-posi rear with aluminum drums. Talk about a 1 wheel peel.
Honestly, I can't wait to dig into it. As soon as I get moved in and have a place to work. I've got some cell phone pics I'll post later.

Nice teaser, she looks like a beaut'. Our cars always look sweet on trailers/lifts. Funny enough, I saw a beautiful yellow IROC today in the Minneapolis suburbs. The first nice thirdgen I've seen in about 5 years on the streets, and I was definitely rubbernecking it.

We'll see what I find as I get into it. It's pretty obvious to me that this car spent the first 30K miles or so of it's life a daily driver. Like I said, needs some TLC, and I'm just the guy to do that!

I had them send me pics of the SPID sticker in the console, so I knew it wouldn't have posi.

Been bouncing from house to house just to do simple things like eat and shower!
It'll all be worth it in the end for you, I'm sure. I assume it has a 3 bay garage? I wanna see pics of all 3 in there together!
