What is this cable?

Not sure if this, or Interior is the best place to pose the question,
but I trust that someone in our vast audience will know the answer?

What is the purpose of this cable?
The black end connects to the (auto) trans shifter, and the white
end was hanging loose up under the dash, in the fuse-box area.

Go ahead, ask me why I'm investigating under the dash...
(Cause the FR*****N heater core dumped lots of coolant into the
passenger compartment. )
