Crossfire hood flaps

Im curious, my dad had an 82 Z28 when he was my age (sold it for a family car... ugh) and I always heard stories about the "hood flaps" that would open up on that thing.

And in all my years messing with these cars (I never saw the one he had) I've never actually completely understood how exactly those things work. I mean I get the idea that at WOT, low vacuum situations the ECM or something would open the flaps and put cool air straight down the intake...

But I've always wanted to actually see these things in action. Anyone got a cool video of this happening? Or pictures? Just a curiosity thing, but as those crossfire setups get more and more rare, I wanna see one in action before they fade away for good.

Re: Crossfire hood flaps

They operate by an electronic solenoid which is actuated based on throttle position. I think it's the coolest part of having a Crossfire.

Hahaha that is awesome. Those early cars got so many neat little things on them... Kind of a shame they got rid of that system, but I suppose it would be a little difficult to implement with a TPI intake.
