It depends on the year... 1986 & 1987 are not dimpled and 1988+ are... IIRC... or is it the other way around.

Yes the dimples on the edge.I want to be correct for that year model.These came off a 88 TA.

 

I didn't know 86's had crosslace wheels at all. I've seen a few, but I just assumed they were put on by the owner.

 

For what I can gather,they became available late in the model year.They came in 2 different colors,Champagne and Charcoal,2 different sizes,15x7s,16x8s.They are listed in my parts catalog for 86.but it doesn't say if they were dimpled or not.

 

According to gtasourcepage, cutoff year for non-dimpled PW7 wheels is 87. 88 and up are dimpled. You might assume other TA's follow the same pattern.

So the Champagne gold is different then the other model years gold.These are Red,I'm having them done in Charcoal.

 

88 & 89.. maybe 1990 had the optional colored wheels on the T/A, the gold was NA on the TA from 1987 - 1990. The colors that I have seen are Red, White, Charcoal, not saying that there are not others, but those are the ones that stick in my head.

I personally like the looks of a red car with the red wheels, or white w/ white wheels. It just looks complete or something...

I see White was offered for 88,89and 90,never seen White in person.

 

I have seen pix only.. I cannot recall seeing one in person either, but they are out there...

They also had a Black as well... I would have to do some digging to see when they went from Charcoal to Black. I do know that in 91 & 92 they were NA in Charcoal, but black, and in 86-87 they were charcoal... For another day

My rims are VERY stained from brake dust unfortunately, but you get the idea.

 

I like it,they really look different from what we see all the time.Would you have the paint code for them,I think I'm going white.

 

I would recommend getting a good set of ceramic brake pads personally... it will reduce the dust.

 

I had ceramic pads put on when I replaced all the calipers and rotors in November,so I'm good to go.Thanks for the advice.

My 86 had them from the factory. From what I understood, it was the WS6 optioned cars that got the crosslace wheels in 1986 and possibly later years as well. Could be wrong on that, but thought I heard it somewhere.

 

Those wheels where an option you could have ordered when you bought the car.my car has the WS6 and it came with the N96 wheels.

Would 11P be the paint code for White PW7 wheels.

 

I have black PW7s with my red TA...I prefer black wheels to the red on red cars, personally. White on white looks pretty sweet though. Granted, as a 30th Camaro owner, I am biased in favor of white wheels

 

I've never seen a set until the pics where shown,never in person.I was going thru the parts illustration catalog to check to see if red was an original TA wheel color and I seen that white was also a color.I really like the white.

 

THe first two numbers indicate the color, in this case it is 11.. and the last part of the RPO is P which indicates Wheel Color. White is not White, or there are several shades of White more correctly. The white RPO could be 10, 11 or 40...

Suggestion: Since your painting them anyways... use the same color as your car if it is white.

I remember years ago in my old town a girl driving a red '85-90 Trans Am with RED gta wheels !! She waived at me once when I was driving my third gen,But could never stop and talk. lol

Well I found my 86 Pontiac brochure and apparently the dimpled wheels were available for 1986.I'm really glad about that because I'm trying my best to keep this car as original as possible.

 

I got board,so I gave the wheels a shot on my own.These are the wheels that I bought.

 

And I finished two today in White and I'll finish the other two another day(hands sore).I just saved $500.00 doing these myself.

 

Haaaate to break it to you... But those wheels in the picture are the 15" version for the Base Firebird and SE.... Trans Am maybe... not sure tho, I would have to do some research on it, but I do not think they were available on the TA in the 15"...

Look at the picture closely... You will notice there is a slight dish to them... The wheels that you have pictures of in red then white are much flatter. Verrrry nice looking mind you in white...

The addition to the cross lace 16" wheels was in mid year 1986

To be brutally honest... I do not think anyone would ever know until 20 years from now when some geek like me is on the show circuit judging... Even Pontiac "experts" of today know nothing IMHO.

But these came off a Trans Am.Be right back!!!!!!

 

Okfoz,you trying to give me a stroke!!!their 16s, went to the tire shop and checked the tires that came off of them wheels and they were 245/50/16s.
you had me worried,I have like 6-8 hrs.into the two wheels.
Just to be safe I measured them,they are 17.1/4x8.7/8

 

Your White wheels ARE 16"x8"... The wheels in the picture from the brochure are 15"x7"... Sorry to give you a heart attack... My point was the 16" PW7 Wheels were a mid year addition to the Trans Am with the WS6 IIRC. The 87 "Formula" Wheels wheels were standard WS6 Fare.

Not true, I have a 1986 Dealer Book that shows the PW7 Wheels as an option with WS6... The N96 16" Wheel was the only WS6 wheel in 1985 and early on in 1986...

The PW7 was available in Gold and Charcoal in 1986 IIRC...

I got what your saying,When I got my car that was not available in 16s(PW7) those were later in the year,I got mine in 2/86

 

Sorry, got Dyslexic... I got the words backwards, I read it to mean that the N96 wheels were the only one's available with WS6... I see what you were saying, that they were only available with the WS6... My Bad.

Actually from 1985-1987 the only way to get the 16" Wheels and 235-50R16 tires was to get the WS6 package on the Firebird... I know that in 91 & 92 this was not true as eventually the 215-60R16??? tires were available... not sure when the narrow tires first became available, I have to look it up... I know that with the WS6 from 85+ the 16" wheels were the only ones available.

 

Finished all the wheels and had them installed on the TA today,Much better,really brings out the color of the car.

 

TA looks great with white trim. Your trees look good in white trim as well.

You should see about getting the bird in the center caps in red... that would accent your red stripe.
