I visited a local dealer to see if they could run a VIS report on my '87 IROC, but was informed that the reports only go back 10 years, and I have no RPO sticker to be found in the car. Is there any way to find out all of the options that the vehicle had, or is it a lost cause?
You can order a GM Invoice from GM Archives
http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/
It won't have all the RPO codes from the SPID sheet as that's not available, but it will list many options your car was ordered with, a few dates and dealership information.

One other possibility is if your car is Canadian, you can get a list of RPO codes from the following site:
http://www.compnine.com
But if you visited a GM Dealership and they couldn't retrieve the information, then the car is probably not a Canadian ThirdGen as, for some reason, Canadian ThirdGens have better records.
