Obtain RPO Codes - Help Please

Hi everyone

I am looking to buy a Z28 here in Australia and need to travel about 1000 miles to look at a car.

Before I go, I was wondering if there is any way to still get RPO Codes for a 1985 Z28 and if anyone on here may be able to help me out?

It would be very much appreciated, unfortunately there is no local Chevy Dealer anywhere near here to go and ask

Thanks in advance.

The car's VIN is 1G1FP87F0FL431971

Re: Obtain RPO Codes - Help Please

Getting RPO codes for a VIN from a computer is limited as is public access. Compnine, a public accessible service, generally only has 1990 and newer ThirdGens in their database or Canadian ThirdGens going back to atleast 1985. This is not entirely a limitation by Compnine as GM's records are not complete.

They don't have records for the VIN you supplied. Any dealer probably won't either for the same reason.

Only option you have is going to GM Archives and ordering an invoice. However, you will not get a complete list of RPO codes - only major RPO codes.

If the SPID is still on the car, it would be inside the center console. Ask the seller to take a picture of it?

Re: Obtain RPO Codes - Help Please

Thanks for the try JT, very much appreciated !

It's a shame these cars are so much more to buy here in Australia - must be something to do with the RHD conversion costs I think .....

Let's see how I go next weekend ..... I'll keep you posted. I did manage to get the RPO Codes for it anyway - seems the sticker was still in the console .... happy days!

My only immediate question, is what is the go with bonnet, bonnet grille, headlamps and rear window louvres? Are these hard to get parts?

Cheers!

Sounds like some big and a heavy part list. Love the bonnet lingo. Learned that from Wheeler Dealers. Thousand miles is way to go. The passion must run deep for the car. Can tell you it should be a fuel injected TPI per the VIN if you heaven't gleaned that from the site here.

Where I come from a Hood is something you wear on your head ......
A boot is at the back, not on your feet though .... go figure!!

So, do I need to ask the question differently perhaps ..... what is the go with Hood (bonnet), Hood (bonnet) grille, headlamps and trunk (rear) window louvres? Are these hard to get parts?

Thanks again all !

Re: Obtain RPO Codes - Help Please

The bonnet can be bought around here for $100 US and are plentiful if you don't mind refinishing them. If the bonnet grille are the non-functional vents on top of the bonnet, they too can be had easily for about the same money. Headlamps very easy but the louvres will be extremely difficult and costly. Most just apply tint to the back glass to do what the louvres did back in the day. As I said before the hood shipping costs will be astronomical unless you can find one on that beautiful island of yours. Best of luck.

If it was me, I would look at hawksthirdgenparts.com, he has a lot of stuff and he might have what you are looking for.

I believe he was and is a sponsor of the site... There are some others out there too..
