data plate - have a strange mismatch and some codes i cannot find
have an 85 T/A. last six of VIN match the trim tag on the radiator cowl. What does NOT match is the Firebird "S" on the trim and the Trans Am "W" on the vin. everything else looks the same. the car certainly looks like a trans am and the vin/trim plates match the options - down to the performance suspension badge inside (believe it to be WS6). ALso has the CC1 trim code on the trim plate - and it does have t-tops that look factory. There is only the single digit is off and the VIN has what appears to be the correct "W" code. Misprint on the trim plate?
also need a little help on other lines of trim plate:
trim line is 26L (cant find this interrior trim code) then 26U WATER (paint - dark blue?)
two lines down from trim line: S then 26710
one line down from line above: 027207 then 26110
did look for the paper tag in the console - console lid is gone and no paper inside. I'll send off for originals but wanted to see if anyone had a more complete decoding web site that the ones I found.
THanks. Kevin

Re: data plate - have a strange mismatch and some codes i cannot find
You mean the trim plate has "2FS87" and doesn't match the first digits of VIN? That's normal.
26L is the Lower paint code and 26U is the Upper paint code. 26 is the Dark Blue color.
Are you sure the 26710 and 26110 are correct?

here's the full tag. I double checked the #s - they are correct.
For the 2FS87 on the body plate, you're saying the 2FW87 on the VIN is correct (trans am)?
F 128 2FS87 L 609283
26L 26U WATER
AR9 CC1
0 (or O) under the left rivet then a bunch of space then S then more space then 26710
027207 26710

Re: data plate - have a strange mismatch and some codes i cannot find
Yes, it's correct that the trim plate has 2FS87 for a Trans Am. Many other members have observed this and got concerned despite the VIN itself was FW. Your VIN, which you indicated has the W (1G2FW) tells you that you have a Trans Am.
F = 1985
"128" is not correct. Is it A or B at the end?
L = Van Nuys Assembly Plant

Re: data plate - have a strange mismatch and some codes i cannot find
The 12B means the car was built in December on the second week.
The bottom numbers aren't 100% known but believed to be internal usage for tracking. There has been some that suggested the first two digits (02 in your case) meant the 2nd day of the month of build with the rest being a sequence number. But that wouldn't match the 12B (December - second week) you have.
To add, the Performance Suspension badge does not automatically mean the car has WS6. Cars that had the optional suspension package that was one level lower than WS6 is what triggered that Performance Suspension badge. With a Trans Am, it could be WS6 and it could be not. You'd need more documentation or details to know for sure.
Could you upload a picture of the trim tag? You can blur out the VIN if you're concerned, or you can email it to me jt@thirdgen.org and I'll blur it out. I'd like to see it.
Thanks
