'86 Trans Am Digital Dash
Hey,
Anyone know if my digital dash in my '86 Trans Am is stock? I've found information saying it could be legit, but that it is probably an addition. Anyone have the numbers on the digital dash production for '86? How can I be sure its legit if the numbers point to it being factory?
Thanks!

Check your RPO codes.I'm not sure what the code is for digital dash, but the code for the digital air control is either C60 Manual or C67 Electronic.

The RPO code for the digital instrument cluster is U52. Look for it on the SPID sticker, as suggested above, which is located on the inside wall of the center console.
As Steve said, unless it's aftermarket it's likely legit. Upgrading from a factory analog to a factory digital cluster is difficult because not only is the wiring different but there's additional sensors (low washer fluid, door ajar, hatch ajar, etc.) that didn't come on the analog cluster vehicles. Also, the digital instrument cluster vehicles also got the electronic HVAC controls which is also different from the analog cluster vehicles that was mechanical.
That said, the 1985 Pontiac order book shows the digital instrument cluster as an available option but that comes with question because I've not seen anyone come forward with one. Either they were only a few in 1985, or there was a last minute change that caused them to be introduced in 1986 after the dealer order book was printed for 1985's model.
