T Tops

I just recently bought a 1991 GTA (didn't know that till I contacted my insurance company ). Question 1: The t tops from the inside look shattered (I know it's lexan) is this right? Question 2: Did the red GTA come with the black wheels or only the gold one's?

Re: T Tops

1) The "Shattered" look is called crazing, the Plastic is breaking down... Also they are not made from Lexan, they are made from Acrylic (CKA Plexiglas), The company that made the Tops was Leximar, and the sticker clearly states how to care for your Acrylic tops... At least mine do.
2) Yes ALL GTA's had the Gold Wheels. The Trans Am & Formula in 1991-1992 could have had the Black wheels however.

Re: T Tops

Question - how does your insurance company know it's a GTA?

Re: T Tops

Have no idea on the insurance. Also on some of the free site's that you can run the vin it will tell you it's a gta. I got to checking and found the rpo it's a trans am(y83). Thanks on information on the t tops, I had a 83 T/A it had glass tops this looked unusual.

Re: T Tops

Because the GTA and Trans Am share the same 1G2FW VIN prefix, some places and websites incorrectly identify the car as a GTA based solely on that. That is not accurate.

You need to have RPO code Y84 (GTA). Y83 is Trans Am but that may be present on GTAs as well because GTAs are Trans Am GTA.

Still, you need Y84 to be a GTA.

Check your SPID sticker or PM me the VIN and I can check. Only a very few places can actually check a ThirdGen VIN accurately.
