92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
Found this listed on Hemmings... B4C 305TPI T5 in Purple Haze. About 48k miles on the odometer. Not too much information, but a rare combination.

A PHM B4C. It took some ***** to order that!
The dealer was probably on pins and needles making sure the order wasn't canceled by the customer.

one heck of a sleeper back in the day....
I'm not saying the car isn't worth his asking price, I'm just continually surprised at what the values of these cars is doing. It seems like every time I turn around the value is going up on the clean originals.

The guage needles are nice and orange, not faded. This car was not in service due to the lower mileage. B4C's took a heap of abuse when in service.

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
I think that car is a very fair deal... B4C, 1LE, T5, 1992, rare color, low mileage. It's hard to tell in the photos, but it looks like there is some small room for improvement in the overall presentation of the car - I think with this final step, it could easily add a justifiable $5k to the asking price.

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
"I remember this car very well. I was the person that ordered it for stock at our dealership. I remember doing all the research on it and liked the way you could get all the performance features on the base Camaro, little did I know it wasn’t suppose to be ordered unless is was going to law enforcement agency. It was kind of tricky to get this ordered because it required a Gm fleet # and special coding to get it to pass, but it did arrive at our dealership about 5 weeks later. Shortly after our car came in I read an article in Car&Driver about how Gm dealerships were trying to get around the law enforcement requirement to get the cars for stock inventory because they were a huge bang for the buck (several thousand less than a similar equipped 91’ Camaro Z28). It’s very nice to see you took such good care of this rare car. Many miles of happy motoring!"
I've seen some Polo Green B4Cs (I really wanted one, but they were all automatics. I actually debated at length getting a 50k mile polo green B4C and getting a T56 swap). I think there's another purple haze car floating around on the forum with an L98 A4.

The PHM L98 was from Indiana and was used by ISP. I saw it and noted it was a typical Indiana car that was used. It had surface scale rust underneath form the cinders that peck the underside of the car. Indiana uses cinders in the winter. This is only the second I know of.

I met a guy here in St. Louis who used to be a technical advisor for GM. Have dealer materials from him with his name on it but he ordered a B4Z Purple Haze in 92. Said weren't many of those. I wouldn't doubt if this was his car.

That is a rare car!! Well worth the $$ IMO...
Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
The fact that it's a purple B4C makes it a rare car. I know of one with very low miles in Minnesota. I'm trying to remember, but the one in MN also has the Heritage Package. I know of only a couple of those.
It would be better if this was a 350 based RS. Being a 305, 5 speed is pretty standard for an RS. Granted, the 305 is a TPI engine that no other RS received, but....

Regarding point B, the definition of top performance depends upon how you value and weight quantitative and qualitative performance. The quantitative gap between the top LB9 T5 and L98 is small (I still have to scan in my magazine comparison of an A4 B4C vs. LB9 B4C vs. 9C1 Caprice - the L98 is quicker, but not by a significant amount, and the T5 hit 150 MPH to the L98's 152 MPH). Qualitative margins depend upon how much you value the transmission and the associated driver involvement. For some, it's no big deal. But for others, there is no compromising.

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
The appeal here to me is the full compliment of luxury options, PW, PL, A/C and whatever else you can load in there, coupled with the full set of 1LE options. Although some of the later 91 B4C cars got this combo, all of the 92's did and those bodies got the epoxy bonding system as well - making for a stiffer chassis.
The 305 statement is comical (but expected) as there is no comparison between an LB9 at a published 230HP/300TQ and the L03 with 170/255. The difference between the LB9 and the L98 comes down to the choice in transmission as some people like to row their own boat.
Wrap the entire package in the ultra rare Hendrixesque Purple Haze and you've got a great car IMHO!

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
I understand what you're saying, but I respectfully disagree. I find the main appeal of the B4C is either A: getting a service car with documented patrol history and livery or B: getting top Z28 performance in the base body style.

That would be a cool car to own... As time goes on, I have a hard time deciding between a Manual LB9/M5 and a L98.. I have both, and honestly I think the LB9/M5 is more fun to drive...
Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
You guys need to remember that we are enthusiasts and there are others that just want the "rarer" car. A 350 based RS is more of a one off, than a 305 based RS. Again, the 305 in this car isn't the L03, but how many people will know that other than us.
I agree that the 5 speed is probably the cooler car, but we all know how the rest of the world looks at what makes the car valuable. I have my car for sale right now with the expectation that it will be replaced with a 5 speed model. Talking with JasonE yesterday, and he also is looking for a 5 speed car. I'm not putting down the 305 in this car, just the rest of the worlds perception of the 305.

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
Scott, I didn't know you were selling yours though! My 88 TA WS6 LB9/M5 was a more fun car to drive than my IROC. It never felt slow, even with 3.08s. It felt significantly more lively than my 2.77 geared L98. Frankly, a key reason I sold my IROC, besides paying too much to store it, was lack of use. Why? It really wasn't as much fun to drive as it used to be. The automatic and lack of grunt, especially compared to my 4th gens, made it a beautiful cruiser and show car...but I like to drive my cars.
And driving is just better with an M5. I'll have a garage in 30 days...and its tall enough for a 2 car lift
I would love to think an LB9/M5 GTA/Formula/IROC or a TTA will be sitting on it...time will tell. Joined: Jan 2013

Man I wish I could have ordered this combination back in 1991 when I ordered my RS! The only thing that would have stopped me is I REALLY wanted T tops. Could a B4C car be ordered with them? Or was it the same as the 1LE when ordering?

Owned several B4C's but have not seen or heard of t-tops in one. Expensive option that would possibly compromise the safety of the officer in a roll over. Many B4C cars were destroyed in pursuit.

Am I the only person who hated this color the first time I saw it and continue to hate it till this day? Just cant like that purple haze. Was it geared towards female buyers?

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
I'm not wild about it, but it's a rare color, especially on a B4C which usually was white or black. I really wanted a polo green one; when looking for mine, there was a polo green B4C for sale with gray leather and about 40k miles on it. It was an L98 A4 car. I debated going for it and immediately shipping it to a shop to have a professional T56 or built T5 swap done, but ultimately decided against it...

But last year I bought a PHM convertible. Even then, I wasn't crazy about the color, but I knew how rare it was, plus it was a bone dry, SoCal car. The color has really grown on me. When nicely detailed, the color literally glows, spectacularly in the sun.
And yes, all females seem to like it.

There are very few colors I absolutely hate on cars... None of the colors on 3rd gens were so bad I hated them. The only color I can definitively state I hate was on the Monte Carlo and Impala it reminds me of primer Gray with a clear coat, no metallic. Every time I see one of those cars I come out of my skin in disgust.

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
I actually remember the first time I saw a purple car. It was around 1991 or 92, and I was driving an 84 red t-top sport coupe, when my buddy who was with me at the time saw it. We both looked with wonder on our faces and I said to him then "What a disgrace! Somebody painted that poor car PURPLE! and even has the nerve to put "purple haze" in white lettering on the windsheild!" He should have his *** kicked!"...LOL The NEXT day driving passed a dealership I saw two purple cars on their lot and realized that it was a factory color. I just dont like it.
I must say though, I felt the EXACT same way when I saw the high rise spoiler for the first time back then. I thought some zipperhead had created it in his garage and thought "what in the hell is the world coming to"...Can't like those either...lol

Re: 92 Purple Haze B4C T5 for Sale
I honestly beleive that the phase of all the little dumb dumb rice looking wannabe race cars went through actually got started by the high rise spoiler that debuted on the Camaros. They just HAD to have one even bigger and even more pronounced on their moms honda.....and it was a hit..lol
Even the dumbest looking spoilers on cars of all time, cars like the Plymouth Superbird, didn't start the trend that the highrise spoiler on a thirdgen did. While the Superbird spoiler was the most outlandish thing Ive ever seen on a car, the 90's Camaros just lost it's "muscle car look" and traded it in for a "sports car look" IMHO. The reason it was popular i beleive is because sports cars were "in". Even us thirdgen enthusiasts are split down the middle when it comes to how we view our cars. Is it a "muscle car" or is it a "sports car". Depending on how you answer that question probably determines which spoiler you like best...lol
NOW, put a high-rise spoiler on a purple haze car, and well... THEN the definition of HATE surfaces in my mind...lol
