1992 all black b4c/1le no markings/spotlight
1992 all black b4c/1le no markings/spotlight
I have a 1992 black inside and out B4C/1LE car with 5.7 L98 and auto trans car that was never a patrol car. No spotlight, but some screw holes for 2-way radio in dash bezel. Was told never a patrol unit, not a DARE car, no Carfax info prior to 80,000 (exactly) miles. Any hints ? Has been a Utah car since delivered new I think. DMV will not tell me who had possession before 80K miles. Registration shows Z28 but obviously is a RS as has low spoiler and plain hood and RS badging. Has the worst paint job I have ever seen, and I have seen some done with rollers !!! Orange peel and fisheyes and paint runs everywhere !!!

Probably need to continue searching for clues...
The screw holes, the repaint, the mileage, and the lack of history before 80k miles suggests it may have had some sort of service life. B4C is the "Special Service Package" and comes with the FLT RPO (Fleet). They weren't solely intended for highway patrol; it may have been an undercover car or other government or fleet use vehicle.
My B4C was never put in service, and the CarFax goes all the way back. You may want to cross-reference CarFax with AutoCheck to see if they both stop reporting data before 80k miles.
Look for paint clues in the door jambs, underbody and other areas to see if it has evidence of a patrol car livery. Match that to the RPO for the paint color from the RPO sticker. For example, if your RPO is for black paint, but beneath the black repaint you find evidence of a white door, then that's a pretty good sign it was a patrol car. If you know the state it was located in before you bought it, look for some historical images of patrol cars from the early to mid 90's to see what to look for.

Just saw you said Utah. Take a look at this for sale of a restored Utah B4C:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cama...ed-police.html
If that's what the 90's patrol livery looked like, then you need to check the RPO to see if black was the original color. You may also be able to feel the paint around where the Utah beehive logo was to see if there is any evidence of a sticker or other paint beneath the repaint.
Note that the link is for a state police car... local PDs will probably differ.

GAM is an rpo code for Federal Government order such as FBI, postal service, etc. see if it is on your SPID sticker.
