I may be selling some REALLY rare early 3rd gen parts...
I figured I'd post this here rather than in another section to see if anyone has a restoration they'd want these parts for.
Now that my '83 has apparently sold, I've got some parts, some NOS new and some used but as new, that I probably will never use. Lots of odds and ends I'll look through but the big ones are these:
1) Last in the world, still in the GM box, Crossfire hood insulation. It's molded with the aluminum backing and the hole in the middle for the air scoop. This is the real deal, not the cheap imitation crap on eBay. This box, is essentially the size of a hood and will be expensive to ship.
2) Blue LS Conteur interior with both style door panels. The base gray vinyl ones and also the blue "CAMARO CAMARO CAMARO" door panels - I have both. The front seats need to be re-upholstered and I have purchased enough "CAMARO" fabric to do them, but I haven't found an EXACT match for the bolster material yet.
3) New and unused blue front and rear GM floor mats. Trust me on this, you will never see another set after these are gone.
I haven't really figured any prices on any of this stuff, just wanted to see if any of my TGO friends could use them for their cars before it goes on the open market.
I'll get some pics up in a bit.

Waiting for pics of the seats and door panels... Wondering if its worth taking the LS seats and panels and having them re-upholstered to look like the 85 only Charcoal set. Just testing the waters here Charlie, nothing serious for now.

That would be a pretty expensive way to go, Brad. But if you did, you wouldn't need the LS rear seat.

Cool hood pad. I wish there was an accurate repro available for everyone. These flat, featureless aftermarket pieces are awful.

Im not going to blow the budget just to have them, I was just deciding which route to go. Find shells to re-upholster, or wait it out for a real 85 charcoal set... Trending Topics

I feel that way about a lot of parts for these cars. Back in 1994 i restored an 87 IROC that I got cheap because it had a hard life. I bought new hood louvers for $50 each and all other parts were still available over the parts counter including the hard to find 82 dash pad and steering wheels. If I knew then what I know now I could have made a fortune.

For sure!
My attic would be stuffed to the rafters with dash pads, floor mats, hood pads, shifter plates and exhaust systems.

Yeah, I find those repros so disappointing, that if I can't find a usable old one (not likely) when I go to replace mine (has a small tear in it, along with some PAG oil from the compressor), I'll probably just go custom, and not make the effort to fake the factory look with the repro.

I believe the problem with reproducing them like the originals, is not necessarily the actual hood pad, it's the shipping of it. Easy to ship something that you can roll up in a box. A molded one would cost $100-$200 to ship.

Re: I may be selling some REALLY rare early 3rd gen parts...
I'm sure that's parts if it. But there were probably some very large presses, shaped like the under-hood, that were required to press those into shape. And maybe some heat, or steam, or??? I'd love to see this process being done, though materials have now changed. Add in all the variables for engines and hoods, and it's probably just too much money for anyone to want to invest in.

Hey Charlie, this is the History/Originality board. All selling belongs on the Classifieds board. Why are you breaking all the rules?

Letting it stay since they are NOS parts and people looking for NOS will probably find it easier here than on the Classifieds.

Thanks Scott. This has turned into more of a discussion on these parts.
Re: I may be selling some REALLY rare early 3rd gen parts...
The repro hood liners don't bother me too much, at least they're cheap, and it's not like you have to look at them ALL the time. The repro 85-92 Firebird 5spd shifter plate bugs me a lot more.
I need to pull the hood liner off the Iroc, along with the louvers, but I'm concerned it's so fragile from age it won't survive. A flat repro would be better than the dusty failing original, or worse - nothing at all. But knowing the way I do things, I'd have to keep the original and store it... Just like the original off my Formula, or the one off the Mustang, both of which are rough, but intact. So for now, I procrastinate the hood project, finding other little things to do in the mean time.

I think BADNBLK has had good results in cleaning old hood liners.
