History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
It is in excellent condition! But, I don't think there are many out there willing to pay that kind of money for it. He may be holding on to it awhile longer. And if I were to pay that price for it, I sure wouldn't be driving it much. That's one of the things I like about the thirdgen cars, is driving them.
Tired of this car being advertised as a 16k mile car. It has over 40k. I considered buying it myself from the original owner in Maine years ago. Car came from Maine and afterward ended up in Matt Garretts and Jim Haleys car collection. Both owners were made aware of the issue. Rear spoiler is not original paint. Certainly a very pretty car, it is rare, but buyer beware.... Here is a copy of the original ad from when the car had over 40k miles. The VIN is the same.
It features the Pontiac Trans Am GTA edition badging and package.
Silver metallic paint with gold pin stripe, power everything.
GM HO 5.0 liter V8 Tuned Port Injection motor coupled to a 4 speed automatic transmission
Factory T-tops (only available with the 5.0 liter motor) with the original t-top case.
Grey Cloth Recaro seats (the cloth does not burn your skin on hot days)
In a collectors eyes, it's not off by a couple hundred or a couple thousand miles... it's off by a LOT... If something like that ever happened to me and I bought it like that and found out later, I'd honestly be devastated. I was interested in the car when Jim had it on ebay months ago, I did a search on the vin and was surprised to see it was the same car again. Jim and I had a nice discussion about it and he decided to pull it off ebay. Disappointed to see that it's still being represented with those miles. Again, it's an awesome car, but it's a 40k mile car and should be represented and priced as such.
If the car was priced to sell, an unaware buyer would be getting screwed by a 20,000 mile discrepancy. Someone should report this to whatever car selling sites hes using. hes obviously aware hes a liar at this point.
Odometers in that era car are known for failure. Quite a few threads on here about the little plastic white gears. Could have had the gauge cluster replaced or repaired and rolled back.
ALWAYS wise to do a carfax. Only takes one time of getting burned to learn a lesson. Happened to me on a car a few years back. Was not an F body, but from out of state and there were no telltale signs that it had about 100,000 more miles than what was stated. Filed an odometer tampering complaint with that state but lost. It was an older Subaru. Though it had 75k on it, but car fax revealed about 180,000.
Probably a typo when entering the mileage where it was entered as 41,471 it should have been 14,471 not uncommon....
I have seen that in the past, but this particular car was on craigslist in Maine also with 41k advertised when I was going to buy it originally and I have a copy of the original owners ebay ad. I still have the original owners contact info too.
