crazy to think you guys all were 18-30 buying these cars new and I wasn't even alive for the production years. Must have been awesome cruising around in these during the 80's

That first spring shortly after I got it, we had to go to a corporate event at The Bostonian hotel down next to Faneuil Hall Marketplace and a bunch of us from work went down in different cars. I had the IROC with the t-tops off & one of the girls from work went with me.
We pulled into the circle in front of the hotel and handed the keys off to the valet like the rest of the guys did, but instead of putting it in the garage with the rest of the cars, they parked it out front with the Ferrari & the Lamborghini. Red Ferrari, black IROC, yellow Lambo - it was quite the site....wish I had a camera phone that day!
In response to a post about pictures when we originally had the car, I am including a picture when I first washed -- probably August of 1988. Looking for the picture I also found a picture of me washing my first car, a 1976 Mustang II, that I purchased from my mom prior to my junior year of high school.
While I have a more detailed history of my IROC on my website, I purchased it after my 79 Berlinetta was totaled and I purchased a 78 Z28 with a 350 and a 4-speed. That car ( aka the beast ) turned out to be a real piece of ***** and that is why I got the IROC. A lesson learned was not to have your sister go to the dealer with you when purchasing a car: I was mulling over whether or not to buy the IROC and I told the salesman that I didn't bring my checkbook and therefore would not commit to a purchase, let alone make a down payment. My sister burst out and said " but I have my checkbook"
and I felt trapped....
Holy cow...the first car I ever drove was my Mom's '75 Mustang II Hatchback, in bright red. That photo brings back some memories.
It was, given all of it's shortcomings, a fun little car to drive.....But I learned a hard lesson about car care with that. I neglected to check the oil, and the engine siezed just after I started college. That's when I splurged and bought the '79 Berlinetta, which I drove untl '88 whan it was totalled on Tax Day. The Mustang II is probably why I over-compensated and began to change the oil every 1500 miles.
Well I not sure if this qualifies but my mom purchased new in '89 and handed down to me its been in family for near 30 years so technically its had he same last name registered all its life
The original owner of my car, Mike. I took these pics a couple of months ago. I'm in semi regular contact with him. He bought this car in spring 1990. The service manager used it as his demo (registered/punched June 89) until the winter hit.
Mike went in to service his car and saw it sitting in the showroom. He actually bought it for his wife who wanted a Trans Am. After driving it for no more than 2 months, she span out during some heavy rain (Gatorbacks lol) and told him she never wanted to drive it again haha!
Sadly she passed away in 2000. Techinally she was the original owner because the car was under her name and stayed that way all these years until I came along.
