History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I just acquired a 1992 Trans Am, the car condition is kinda rough, the engine is pig rich(L98) and constantly stalls. I acquired the car to swap the rear spoiler, tail lights, and seats to my 1992 Firebird base model, the reason being is I´m in Mexico and the Government would not allow me to legally drive the Trans Am in my city without being a US citizen, which I'm not.
Anyway, I did some digging and found the RPO list in the trunk and to my surprise found out this car appears to be a GTA, the car has no GTA badges, the fenders have firebird emblems and the crosslace rims are missing, but it does have the ULTIMA seats, L98, 36 mm front sway bar, N10 exhaust and 3.23 rear end AND it has Y84 as an RPO.
Now I don't know if I should keep this car in storage about 5 more years until it becomes a classic by Mexican Government standards and I can legally import it, or if I should take all the GTA equipment and swap it into my Firebird and sell the Trans Am with my drivetrain and interior and forget about it.
Is a 1992 GTA worth keeping? given I would not be able to drive it for AT LEAST 5 years and it is in kinda rough shape?
Start restoring the GTA. Five years from now maybe it'll be finished and you can drive it.
I'm only 50% kidding. These things take time and money. Even if you have the money already, the time is still the same. If you need time to earn the money...
I would restore the GTA since it came with the Y84 0n the RPO list. "Upgrading" your base Fbird with GTA parts would not be as rewarding. Are you certain the SPID label is for this car?
I guess I'll keep it and try to fix it as suggested, and wait until I can legally import it here.
The SPID sticker matches the VIN of the car, If the info I found online is true, this is 1 of 18 Dark Jade Gray Metallic 1992 Trans Am GTA´s. I would love to find out how many came with the L98 and Tan/Brown interior as mine has.
