Question on Engine bay tags.

Question on Engine bay tags.
This may be a dumb question but I have owned 7 or 8 third gen Camaro's. My 1988 Camaro has a tag in the engine bay on the front cross member that has 13 2004. I have never seen this on any Camaro's I have owned and every body part on the car has the vin number on it. Just wondering if this is something new they did this year or if it is something special???????

Re: Question on Engine bay tags.
They're relatively common, but completely meaningless to we mere mortals. Rumor has it's some kind of sequence number used on the assembly line, and it matches something or other on the build sheet or invoice. It's not really useful for anything now.

Re: Question on Engine bay tags.
Whenever I find A thirdgen in a yard I make it a point to collect the Tags. I have about 100 now and I haven't seen any real correlation to any given option etc. Basically they are just some type of sequence # as mentioned above. The pre 86 cars tags are cool as they give some insight to what the car was. I only have a handful of those.
