Is this car worth saving - 82 Pace Car

I don't know much about these. I was in a junkyard nearby me a few weeks ago and saw this 82 Camaro Pace Car sitting in the "no parts allowed" part of the yard, whole cars for sale only. I thought about dragging it out of there myself, but I really have too many projects and no place to park it really. If it's worth saving or having for parts to someone, feel free to contact me and I'll give you the info. Shame it's just rotting away. Has 1,500 on the window, could probably get it for less. Sorry for the picture quality, tight quarters and a friend's phone. I didn't have my camera with me.

Nope. It doesn't appear to be worth saving. The pace cars are good looking, but in stock form, they don't have much value, except to a real enthusiast. Restoring that car will cost more than it's actual value. It appears to be a good parts car at this point.

Not even close. I'll go one step further than Scott and say that I'm not even sure it's worth it for parts. Well, the hood maybe worth something if it's the original SMC version, but beyond that, I don't see much there that even a die-hard '82 fan like me could get use out of.

Yes, I would try to save it. Far to many go to the parts. It looks bad now but it may be much better underneath. If the price is right go for it. If it does turn out bad there will always be some parts on there that are needed somewhere. I'd love to have it. Most people's ideas of what is too far gone are not really that bad. It depends o what level of work and money you wanna spend to make it nice again. It may be much nicer than what it appears to be in the pics.

If you are rich and have a lot of time & resources on your hands sure - buy & restore it.

Otherwise if you can't get it for $400, walk away.

Restoring means to return to "like factory new". The question was if it's worth it to restore this '82 pace car. I still say no. The restoration costs will be extremely high and the pace car value is not there. If you want to rebuild the car as a street machine, then it may be worth it based on overall condition, if the price is right, but $1500 is too high for what I can see. There aren't enough parts from an '82 that would equal the $1500 if you find that's it's too far gone.

Re: Is this car worth saving - 82 Pace Car

Glad to see some pace car owners chime in. I seem to recall the hood is fiberglass, but it's busted on the corners underneath and there is another fiberglass hood leaning against the fence. The guy claimed it was all there except the replacement door on the passenger side. I pretty much draw the line at the bottom of the car, but I couldn't get under this one. I've only seen one in person in Somerset, KY that was immaculate and low miles and just didn't know much about them. Just thought maybe somebody might want it and if so, let me know.

If by saving you mean dragging it out of the weeds I think it's worth that. But at 1500 that'll sadly never happen.
