hey,

there's a car for sale near me that looks like an early 90's model transam......it says it's also a GTA. I think these are rare cars....it looks like it has a 350 in it. The body is almost perfect, but I would need to re do the interior. How many of these cars were made?? What is a reasonable price for one???

yeah.....I think
Yeah.....I'm pretty sure it's a 90-92..... What years did they put the stereo controls on the steering wheel??? The hood also has vents in it.....and it has ground effects (my friend has a 91 TA and it looks almost the same....except this one says GTA) As far as the engine.....it looks way too big to be a 305......it might be a replacement......it has an Edlebrock filter on top......the alternator has a little rust on it.....which makes me think it's original......I doubt anyone would replace an engine and let it get to looking like that....... The car wont start....and needs interior work. It has an auto trans in it. I would kinda like to buy it......what would be a good price??? Any help would be great....thanks

What made the GTA's so special???
Was it better performance, or what set them apart from a TA?

88 and 89 had the steering wheel radio buttons. I don't think this is a 90 if it had GFX like your freinds 91 TA because the exterior didn't change until 91. The engine isn't original because it would be EFI, unless the intake was switched. Sounds like it needs work, u should do alot more looking on that car if u really want to but it.

Of course the GTA had better performance, it was the top model. Although, now that I think about it, maybe the Formula was better??

Yeah, they are heavy. Maybe the Formula 350 was faster than the GTA??

All Fbodies 90-92 have airbags, and no steering wheel radio controls. The steering wheel radio controls were used from 88-89.

The hood also has vents in it.....and it has ground effects (my friend has a 91 TA and it looks almost the same....except this one says GTA)

The vented hood was standard on the trans am from 85-92 and on the GTA from 87-92

As far as the engine.....it looks way too big to be a 305......it might be a replacement......

From the outside a 305 and 350 look exactly the same. The exterior dimensions are identical

it has an Edlebrock filter on top......

Its not a GTA. All GTA's have TPI. The airfilter would be in a canister off to the side of the engine bay and Edelbrock doesnt offer any parts for them.

the alternator has a little rust on it.....which makes me think it's original......

thats nice, but doesnt really tell us much. Sounds like its been abused... maybe flood damage. If its not bare metal originally it shouldn't be rusted. Was probably a replacement alternator without a painted pulley and fan.

I doubt anyone would replace an engine and let it get to looking like that.......

Probably not, sounds more like a basket case.

The car wont start....and needs interior work.

So whats good about this car?

It has an auto trans in it.

See last statement

I would kinda like to buy it......

Why? Its not a GTA, which tells us the owner/seller, is a liar. It's either a 305 TBI (1988-1992) or 305 4bbl (1985-1987). It doesn't run. Its an automatic linked to a 5.0. The interior "needs work", etc...

what would be a good price???

$200?

Any help would be great....thanks

This is one of those cars you want to RUN, not walk away from, and never look back.

Hey Drew....
It has the GTA front emblem on the nose of the car and map holder under the dash which says GTA......was there a vin code or something for the GTA?? I guess the engine has been replaced.....for $200, if it is a GTA.....I think it would be fun to fix up. The body is in really good condition...door shut very smoothly. It has power everything. I'll try to post some pics this afternoon. Thanks for all of the advice everyone.

Yeah, give us pictures.

Emblems and stuff can always be added though.
