Hubcap Inserts

Hello, so I am looking at getting new hubcap inserts for my 85 z28. Thing is I have Iroc-Z wheels because that's all I could find in my area. Will this z28 insert fit into an Iroc-Z wheel?

Re: Hubcap Inserts

Assuming your Iroc wheels are the typical Iroc style wheel, and not the 88 15" Iroc wheel... No, the Iroc caps are completely different from the 15" Z28 wheel caps. The emblems on the Iroc caps are soft plastic, peel and stick style, the N90 emblems are hard plastic that sits in a recess in the cap. Pretty sure without looking that they're a different size too.

Re: Hubcap Inserts

They are a different size, but just slightly. I've been looking at the same thing with my '82. I purchased a set of IROC-Z 16" wheels, but need the center cap. An old friend, named Willie, showed me that you can buy the '85-'87 style center cap, carefully remove the gelcoated IROC-Z logo, and apply the above with an adhesive. They are slightly smaller in overall diameter, but the plastic cap is black and can be made to look good at 5' away.

Re: Hubcap Inserts

Why buy those $pendy GM pieces.
You can buy these bowtie stickers of a few bucks.
Prob. the same size as the IROC or z-28 OE stuff.
( Yes I know hes talkin IROC centers)

I wasnt paying almost $40 for the OE z-28 sticker replacements.

Re: Hubcap Inserts

The OE center cap emblems aren't just stickers. They have a gel coat seal over them, and look more stock. For me, it's subtle enough that most people wouldn't know they weren't designed that way. The thing is, the IROC-Z wheel never had a Z28 center cap, so for my pace car, adding the IROC-Z wheel with the original red Z28 center cap would look like it came from the factory like that.

Re: Hubcap Inserts

Those bowties pictured above are NOT stickers but a solid plastic piece that are clear covered with a adhesive back.
IIRC the FACTORY z28 caps are 2 1/8 and the SAME size as the Iroc caps.

My post was just to offer a cheap replacement idea for missing Iroc cap center EMBLEMS/STICKERS/YADA YADA !
Didnt need the schoolin'

$40 OE/licensed replacements aint happenin'!

Actually, the IROC-Z gel coated portion of the center cap is 2-5/16". The '82-'84 Z28 gel coated portion of the center cap is 2-3/16", or 1/8" smaller. So, as I mentioned before, if you can remove the gel coated IROC-Z piece from the plastic cap, the older style Z28 gel coated piece can be glued into the center of the cap and the difference would be 1/16" all the way around. The cap itself is black and so is the Z28 gel coat background, so the 1/16" gap would never be seen unless someone took the time to examine the cap.

Re: Hubcap Inserts

I ordered these for my S-10 centers.
57 mm- inside
Maybe they will need a little trimming to fit the center holes in the wheels.
Again Im not paying $40 for OE s-10 inserts.

This s-10 is my new Florida fresh winter rat.
I know you guys have them garage queen princess' rides but mine are DDs.

You don't have to pay anything at all. My response is helping the OP that stated he has IROC-Z wheels and asked if the 82-84 inserts would work. I also had this question and found no information on it, but Willie explained how it would work and said he did this to his 87 Z28, that had IROC-Z wheels. Some of us do want the OEM look, but as I mentioned before, a Z28 cap was never made for the IROC-Z wheel.

I guess you "helpers" scared him off raggin on me with your overbearing knowledge!
Seems thats the way its gettin' around here lately with a few of you guys!
Shame too............

I know you experts with the trophy garage queens want only gold plated OE stuff!

But it seems the OP with the z-28 and IROC wheels needs some kind center caps.

Just offering some alternatives for his DD car..................

Don't suppose the chip on your shoulder and your personal quest to defend the honor of all the virtuous newbies and beater drivers, steering the thread into the weeds, had any part to do with the direction the thread has taken? Your Captain Save-a-tard routine is as tired as anything you're trying to rage against. Even the newbs and retards can speak for themselves. They don't need your help. Give your opinion, stay on topic, leave your personal shortcomings out of it.
