History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
My Firebird Formula was ordered through, and delivered by, Downtown Pontiac on West Liberty Avenue in Pittsburgh. The dealership is now defunct, with the site being taken over by one of the other "auto row" dealers along West Liberty Avenue, but I still recall what it looked like back in 1989...!
**Sonny Hancock Chevrolet, Gastonia North Carolina** for my 1991 RS Camaro.
Sonny the founder was a good businessman, his son not so much. Marty lost the dealership shortly after the financial melt down of 2008/2009. Rumor around town, he'd snorted too much of the profits over the years to survive the down turn.
Story of an excellent business sinking and failing.
My 1988 Iroc was ordered and sold by Joe Basil Chevrolet in Depew, NY. I have all the original manuals that came with the car, including the Bose demo cassette. I am still searching for some period keychains and other merch from this dealership to complete my collection!
Mine came from Gay Hood Pontiac-Suzuki in Riverside, California, but I'm not sentimental about the Dealership of origin, nor would I ever put their **** on the back of my car. In fact when I bought my 2015 Silverado Crew I told the Dealer to take his **** off my truck or I was walking away from the deal.
I remember going there all through the ‘80’s and the early ‘90’s looking at the new Firebirds when they came out. Great memories!
My '88 GTA was the last '88 in the state was it brought from Premier Pontiac/Nissan in Little Rock, AR on 9/23/1988. I have never found any dealership items in the intervening 37 years... no license plates, no emblems, no stickers, nothing. My car had the Premier sticker on the rear bumper, but I made them take it off before I left the lot. They were not amused...
