Although you are correct as other were done by the owners later.
Here's a picture of my old '79 T/A 6.6 (yes a 400 4 speed car) which had just 55K on it when I sold it. Though it appears to have T-tops, it did not. Nor did it have rain gutters like most every hardtop I've ever seen.
This is one of the best cars I've ever owned. I bought it with 35K in Lunenurg, MA back in '95 for $8K and drove it home to TN. My wife, two sons and I really loved that car. Still had its original AM/FM/CB radio and power antenna, both of which worked perfectly. It was blast talking to all the truckers during the 1,200 mile ride home. Pretty obvious to know when they were talking about my car as I was driving by. Surprised at least one or two when they heard me come over their CB back at 'em.
The couple I sold it to even contacted the original owners of the car back in NH and they wished that they never sold the car after owning it for nine years.
Enjoy!

Hi TransAm12sec,
Question. Why do you have regular Firebird center wheel caps on your car? Shouldn't you have the MR caps? Nice car by the way!!!!
Hi shrp1,
All the convertible conversions were done before they were sold to the public! Only the dealer could order these cars. ASC would not work with anyone else, but the dealers.
And, if it was a true 1 of 1, why does Pontiac not list it that way? I don't feel like arguing with people about this either. Either contact Pontiac or PHS and get their view. Mule cars start life out as other cars also. They are not true domumented cars either. Case in point. The 3.8 H.O. 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am. It started life out as a 1986 Trans Am. Thru the years, it was used for many different engineering projects. The final version-the conversion to a 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am to compete in the Car And Driver magazine manufacture's high speed shootout for 1989. Is it a true 20th TTA? No. Pontiac even says so. Would I love to own it? You bet!!!!
This isn't just my opinion, it's what Pontiac even says!
So.....just letting you know some facts, as stated by Pontiac Motor Division.
By the way, the Pilot car #3, which is now a convertible. It was a magazine test car also. I know, I got to test drive the car in 1988! It was not convertible then! And it was already assembled by both Pontiac and PAS. It was finished.
Not starting a flame war,
George
P.S. TTA's are great cars!!!

You peaked my curiosity with your post. I own an '87 GTA vert and have been endlessly defending myself in the point that the ASC conversion was authorized through GM, and the public couldn't have this done. I know this to be true because I have had many conversations with ASC regarding this point. My question to you is, do you have any hard evidence to back this up. If you had the Pontiac order code for the vert it would be nice. According to Willie, the Camaro RPO code was Z08. Any info would be helpful. If you do a search you will see my number of posts on this subject. Thanks. Joe

Thanks, I have the chrome Mecham Racing Hubcaps, but only three. Thats the way my sister got the car a couple of years ago. They are in the trunk along with two Ebacih springs. I had to replace the front springs, and you can only buy a 4 pack of them. I want to find a remake of one, but have yet to look.
Hi TransAm12sec!
I happen to have a couple of really great condition MSE chrome wheel center caps for sale if you need. They look new. Email me at:
WarbirdTA@hotmail.com
if you are intrested. I'll email you back within a day or so (I've got a birthday party today to go to, and a wedding tomorrow).

When I was around 12, the previous owner my sister got it from had a license plate that said 34 of 150. Thats been stuck in my head for some time and its hard to forget. 500 were made in 82, Dennis Mecham told me 50 of em were red. It may just be my imagination but the car on ebay looks higher then other MSEs. If you ordered Ebach springs that lower the car 1-2 inches, that would be the ride height of one. In my pic, ebaich springs are in the front with the stock springs in the back.

-VERY- smokey tire, though! I would defiently buy them again. They are around $150 or so each at NTB, but I got mine at www.tirerack.com for $100 each, totalling $442 shipped! (About 2.5 years ago, I think it's still the same though) HTH! Last edited by ES87iroc; Oct 5, 2002 at 10:31 AM.

RARE!! 1989 350 TPI convertible
Yeah, I'm new here and want to present my wheels for consideration, although I put the pics on a different thread..it's still a unique 1 of 6000 odd 89 converts made from what I hear so far. Hopefully you guys can help me narrow the mystery
It's dual exhaust 350 tuned port and auto shifting with manual drop top and custom paint. Gray cloth interior as well.

This is a 1991 Z28 350CID with a 700r4 auto trans. 1LE car. Apparently 1 of 175 made with this engine combo. Not sure what number but if anyone can tell me how I can find out I would much appreciate it. Thanks.

My two dream cars are the 1988 Callaway Corvette Sledgehammer, and a 91 hawk. How hard was it to find the firehawk?

1987 Camaro Sport Coupe Convertible
"20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition"
1 of 263 produced
Of the 744, approximately 650 had the IROC-Z option. Mine does not. Including mine, there are 12 verified to exist. Of the 12, only two have the 305 TPI/5-speed. Mine is one of the two. [/B][/QUOTE]
I have a 1987 Z28 not Iroc with a 350 TPI Auto. it is Red W/ T-tops. Where is the production #? I know it is a 20 ann. BEcause i have the baging.

Recaro T/A
Here's my 84 Recaro T/A 1 of 1,321.It's not very rare and lately there are few 84 Recaro's poping up here and there but i didn't see any 84 with leather Recaro seats yet so i'm assuming that's a rare option.I'm still in progress of restoring the car and gathering information about it.
Tongi,
I don't ever remember seeing a '84 Recaro Trans Am with those front grilles! Were they on the car when you bought it??? Plus, all of the 1984 Recaro Edition Trans Ams had the leather. The 15th Anniversary trans Ams had the leather/cloth Recaros.
92TransAm,
I like the station wagon look! Heck, even BMW did it! I sure could put a ton of stuff in the back, if I had that option! I really loved the same thing that was done to the fourth gen Trans Am-The Hurst Hauler! I even got to drive the Hauler!! What a trip!!!

George

ALL NICE!
Hi
Everyone presenting rides on this thread...thanx!
I love the eyecandy!
Want to hear more on those Bonneville racers! Is the 300MPH a record? Who beat the 'Birds??
I didn't do any 'homework' as I was busy with car repair and work.
The 1984 Recaros (Y84) were leather as pointed out in the FB Redbook and there were 'about' 1500 15th anniversary TAs made.

I don't have the original stop lights with blackout either.I guess it's from a base firebird with a silver bird.So i assume it had an accident from the back too.I don't have any hub caps and i also don't have any of the emblems either. And i saw some other Recaro T/A's at Kizz's Recaro website and most of them had cloth Recaro seats. And i saw few Recaros for sale on e-bay and all of them had cloth seats. That's why i thought it was rare. It's not that i knew it for sure. When i first got the car i wasn't sure if it was original recaro because i didn't had the center arm rest so i didn't had the codes and thanks to kizz he explained many stuff about my car. Then i checked some stuff that recaros had to have, they were all there.15" rims, front and rear sway bars, front and rear disk brakes, posi, L69 H.O. engine etc...Even if it wasn't a recaro i would keep the car because i love everything about this car and i bought it really cheap. It's not in prefect condition but it runs stong and only interior is in pretty bad shape. The dealer didn't know it was Trans-Am he realized when i was checking the car and he told me he won't raise the price for me if i buy it but he said if you won't i'm gonna raise the price.Next day when i went to the place the new price was already there but he kept his promise. So i just got lucky and the car was an original recaro with the front grills that i love.

I don't see options like T-top quantities as confirmed in a prior post, but the Redbook lists the Recaro option at a cost of $1,621 so I'm sure there weren't too many of the 55,374 produced that year!
hehe
