Posi? And Gears?

Hey whats up i was just wondering what 92 camaro Rs CAME WITH POSI TRACTION. i KNOW MINE IS 2:73 LIMIED SLIP WHICH SUCKS AND GIVES ME HORRIBLE PROWER BRAKING. i AM LOOKING FOR POSI AND SOMEONE SAID TRY SLP BUT I COULDNT FIND IT. IS eASTON THE BEST OR ONE OF THE BEST? AND WHAT WOULD BE BETTER GEARING? aUTOMATIC 305 WITH STAGE 2 JET PERFORMANCE CHIP DYNOMAX EXHAUST AND A CUSTOM TORNADO AIR INTAKE. 3:73,4:10, OR 3:55. i WANT TO KEEP IT SO I CAN DO SOME HIGH WAY DRIVING SO I KNOW 4:10 IS PROBABLY NOT THE BEST WAY TO GO.

Try it once more, but in english this time.

No offense but its impossible to tell what you're asking from your post. Slow down, take a few deep breaths and type it out again making it 110% exactly what you want to know, then reread your post twice before clicking submit. Surely part of the problem is that you're a newbie, the only way to get past that is to stay a while. You could also try searching for info that you're looking for.

Also it sounds like you're asking about modding your car... this is History and Restoration, or rather "how do I UN modify my car". Your mod questions would be better directed to the tech / general engine board. And turn off the capslock, its bad netiquette.

Anyway... I'll take a crack at what you're asking in the hope that maybe it'll help.

Hey whats up i was just wondering what 92 camaro Rs CAME WITH POSI TRACTION.

Not much up here, just sitting at the computer... From the information I have the only RS that definitely had Posi traction (rpo G80) were the B4C (police pkg) equipped cars. It may have been an option, bu I'm not sure.

i KNOW MINE IS 2:73 LIMIED SLIP WHICH SUCKS AND GIVES ME HORRIBLE PROWER BRAKING.

How do you know its 2.73 limited slip? BTW limited slip is the same as posi the only difference is marketing names. Why is power braking a big issue? Are you refering to power braking as heating up the tires at the drag strip, smoking the tires for buddies at school, or locking up the brakes at the dragstrip so you can launch at a higher RPM closer to your power band? If you're trying to smoke your tires you'd want better gears, but you're going to get the most smoke with your posi since you'd be burning both tires. However with 2.73 gears and the obligatory 305TBI thats most likely attached, you'd be lucky to have enough power to break loose a single tire.

i AM LOOKING FOR POSI AND SOMEONE SAID TRY SLP BUT I COULDNT FIND IT.

You want to buy a posi? Didn't you say your car is limited slip (aka Posi) already? SLP sells take off Posi units, www.slpeng.com If you can't find them from their main page you have no business trying to modify a car.

IS eASTON THE BEST OR ONE OF THE BEST?

How should I know? I know about restoring cars, not about modding them, try the tech board instead.

AND WHAT WOULD BE BETTER GEARING? aUTOMATIC 305 WITH STAGE 2 JET PERFORMANCE CHIP DYNOMAX EXHAUST AND A CUSTOM TORNADO AIR INTAKE. 3:73,4:10, OR 3:55.

This question makes no sense, maybe because its a sentence fragment, maybe its because the puncuation is ****ty, etc... but its hard to tell if you're asking if you should put those parts in your car or if your car already has them...

i WANT TO KEEP IT SO I CAN DO SOME HIGH WAY DRIVING SO I KNOW 4:10 IS PROBABLY NOT THE BEST WAY TO GO.

That all depends on your combo, which you never clearly explained to begin with.

You might want to start over with something like this...

Hi, I have a 92 Camaro RS, 305 TBI, automatic, with a Jet stage 2 chip, a dynomax exhaust, and a tornado air intake. I know my car has 2.73 gears, but I don't know if my car has a posi or not. If not I'd like to upgrade to one and upgrade to better gears while I'm at it. What would you guys suggest?

In which case I'd tell you, get gears somewhere between 3.23 and 3.73 gears and an SLP posi, or get a rear end from a junkyard out of a thirdgen with the gear ratios you want. But I'd still send you to a tech board since your questions are pretty far off topic for this board.

Thanks for your input. I was in a hurry and i didnt get a chance to reread my post. At first I was asking a history question about my camaro. That is why I came to this board. Then I thought of other things and kept typing. I have all those mods and I am trying to still get better acceleration.

Ok, most if not all RS's (except B4C's) don't have limited slip/posi, but really unless everytime you hit the gas, that one tire completely fries till you let off the gas, posi is not going to make much difference. Assuming the car gets decent gas mileage and doesn't have any misses, etc its probably in decent tune. If in doubt it wouldn't hurt to replace the fuel filter, o2 sensor, PCV valve, plugs, cap, rotor, etc... but none of that will really improve performance. Check the tech articals, read the ultimate TBI articals and then decide if you want to do them. Otherwise it might not be a bad idea to convert to a carb or TPI, but really to make a TBI car fast it will need gears, full exhaust from manifolds to tailpipes, cam, porting or new heads, etc etc etc. The TBI equipped cars were built with all the parts matched for a 17 second car, to get em faster all the parts have to be changed.

Also check out the TBI forum, but keep in mind that no matter what forum you go to, most of the people in the forum are going to stand behind their own type car and say its the best thing ever. In reality the faster the car is stock, the easier it is to go faster.
