New Revell Firebird Model
** MODS, feel free to move to approproate forum **
My 13 yr old and I were wandering the diecast isle (I am a avid Diecast Collecotr) at Wal Mart the other night, and she spots this new 91 Firebird Formula model.
Just thought I would share, and of course I picked one up.

sweet looks like I might have to make a stop at old wallymart and see if I can find myself one
Re: New Revell Firebird Model
2 in 1? Does that mean it comes with a set of stock rims, too?
P.S. I am leaving this here, but it may be moved to History Restoration as that is where most of this type of discussion takes places.

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
Thanks for the heads-up!
I'm never lucky enough to find much in the stores around here. But at least it looks like it can be purchased online directly from Revell, too:
http://www.revell.com/catalog/produc..._1-986-51.html
And in the "Basic Builder" sub-category, they have a 1985 Z28:

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
I picked this up a few days ago. I need to get the paint for it so I can actually build it, but it seems fairly detailed.
An exacto knife is also useful for cutting off the sprue from the parts. I just use a really sharp razor blade.

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
I've been seeing one of those at my local Wally World for months now. Since I have a 87, the nose and FX are wrong, so I've passed on it, besides I already have....

But, it has the TA front fender vents (my car is a GTA, no vents), that I have to fill, to match my GTA.
This Sat., my real GTA is getting a 4th gen rear wing, and I've already got a 4th gen 1/25th scale model, to rob the wing from. I got a set of 4th gen side view mirrors from Fedex today, and hopefully, I'l get those installed Sat. as well! So those will be robed from the model too.
If I ever do a 4th gen rear swap, I've have the model parts to swap also!
And no....the LS1/T56 is not going in the model. I like my TPI, and it's staying that way!
But I did buy this kit....

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
Seeing this thread made me want to get back into model kits, so I stopped by Walmart tonight and picked up the '91 Firebird(too bad the kit is a Formula and my 'Bird isn't) as well as the '79 Z28(http://www.revell.com/catalog/produc...1-482-49.html). Anyone ever done the engine models? They had a L84 327 'Fuelie' for $20 that I considered getting. Maybe next time.
I spent ~$40 tonight on two models, a basic painting kit, glue, thinner and an exacto knife.

I have YET to build a model, using less than 4 or 5 kits MINIMUM!
they're getting expensive, and so many kits I have, missing only 1 piece...

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
Here it is from Revell's site.
I'm working on it right now. I don't remember these paints sucking so much though... it's like they're half water.
EDIT: Be careful with exacto knives. On a sidenote, it's difficult to type without a finger you're used to.

I have both those (From Wal-mart) I have trouble finding some i like, if i had a camera, i would show you guys my models, i think i do really good, up until paint, the aerosol sprayer sucks, makes tons of bubbles, (Even spray-paint works better) If I ever get a camera ill keep ya posted on new models, I am always looking for more.

I've been thinking about getting back into model building again myself, especially since it gets dark at 5:30 now. I don't have enough daylight to work on my real car so I'd like to build a model of it.
Anybody know where to get a 91-92 T/A?

If it's the Formula I'll pass.....I really want one with the GFX, even though I'll have to take off the front fender pieces and trash em so it will be an exact replica of my car.

I hadn't really realized it was a Formula, but yeah. It's the EXACT same yellow 2-in-1 kit above.

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
Ok, I just picked this up today. You can make the car totally stock, or you can make it completely custom: "2-in-1."
You get a set of chrome stock wheels and tires, and you also get a set of (maybe 18") "custom" chrome wheels with low profile tires.
In the decal sheet, you get a "custom" flaming hood bird and matching flaming FORMULA door graphics, which aren't bad looking. The real thing would look good painted on a customized car.
You also get all the stock FORMULA graphics(it's not a 350) and nose/sail panel/tail section birds, in your choices of black, white and silver to go with whatever color you paint the car; your choice of black face or white face instrument panel decals; yellow and red side marker decals; a top-of-the-battery decal; and even a couple of vanity plate decals, lol.
The taillight section is clear plastic, to be painted on the reverse side.
And, oh boy, it's got the '82/'83 "dual" muffler exhaust. But hey, for a model, that kinda gives it a more impressive "look."
I wish it was a t-top car, but I guess I can outline and paint-in the tops.

91-92 Formula 350's only had a Formula logo, no 350. So it *could* be a 350 car, even though the instructions state it's a 305.

Ok, then you wouldn't wanna put on the "5.0 Liter" hood bulge decals that also come in the kit.

I am going to try and make molds of 82-84 Firebird/Trans Am and 85-90 Trans Am/GTA bumper covers, hood and GFX use that kit as a base to modify to look like older cars. I might even try to do the interior too.

That's awesome how much detail there is on that engine. The one in the '79 Camaro is pretty basic and boring. Nice parts though.
I pulled out my collection of spray paint and painted the body on the '79 a metallic silver, used the big racing slicks and the supercharger, but kept the rims stock. Also not doing any of their crappy decals. I just need to find a thirdgen Camaro now.

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
I just want a set of crosslace style wheels for my GTA model.
I had to settle for a standard TA, but have filled the fender vents, to make it a GTA. And I bought a 4th gen Trans Am, to rob the rear wing off of, to match the one on my GTA model I'm building.
Still lots of detail work going on. I rarely build one model, using less than 4 or kits.

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
I have the black 85 trans am model. My girlfriends mom got me it for christmas last year. I dont want to build it until i get another one to keep in the box.
Re: New Revell Firebird Model
There is an old AMT kit for a 91-92 GTA or Formula which ever way you want it. Long disco'd but still on ebay now and then, it is a Jamaica Yellow one, both hoods and optional GFX. I'll get you one if you make me a drivers front fender GFX for my TA!!!

The yellow 91/92 2-in-1 kit? I've seen that at 2 different stores this month.
Re: New Revell Firebird Model
does this kit come with the stock wheels also?
i walk past this model every day at work and think about getting it. i used to really be in to model building, but its been so long i dont even know where all my tools, glues, and paints are. lol im sure the paints are all dried up. im thinking about getting the 98+ TA model and taking the wing off of it and putting it on the formula. does anyone know if this is possible??

Re: New Revell Firebird Model
i just got my model kit for christmas....im pretty excited to start working on it actually lol theres only 4 things i'm disappointed about.....we'll start with with the paint....i was going to use spare paint from my car to paint the model to make it match my car exactly, but the guy at the model place said if i did that, i could expect a blob of plastic the next morning as the paint would make the model melt....number 2 problem is that the model has no t-tops, mine does, #3 is that the car has firebird style rims, and not spoked GTA style that i have.....and the number 4 complaint that i have, which is the most minor complaint of all, is that the model is of a 1985 t/a whereas mine is an 87.....but if you guys want i can keep you posted of the progressing work of my model t/a lol

wish they would make an 85-90 T/A.
