91 camaro resurrection

i bought this 91 rs camaro for $1000, it has a tbi 350 with 70k miles on it. Body was messed up perdy bad and interior was dirty as hell, all in all i had a hard time paying that for it. After an extensive clean this is what i had to work with.

Re: 91 camaro resurrection

This was my first car and and my first big project with my father.
We started working on the car the next day even though i lacked the parts i needed, the flaking clear realy bothered me for some reason.

Moving along quickly we knocked out dings, dents and the little rust there was.

One night someone poured some type of liquid down my car (break fluid). the primer got all messed up. it was time to get serious. i bought a iroc hood for 100 cash and i was given a bumper which had seen better days.

After what seemed like endless sanding the bumper was put in primer and ready for paint. The color i chose was burnt orange mettalic. later that day my thin a$$ cheap fenders arrived.

After hours and hours of sanding and prep it turned out awsome.
PPG paint . Burnt orange metallic, i think with a touch of red
The grounf effects wil most likley be painted gloss black

Its going away for the winter so in the spring the next task is the drivetrain.

Re: 91 camaro resurrection

The paln for the engine is new cam, intake manifold, carb, headers,ect... the works. im planing for a fun street machine. 350-375hp i no its downgrading but my dad know oldschool plus it will teach me the basics. also theres an ecm connection problem which no one can seam to figure out" high idle" = burning up trans and jaming into gear.

Looks like a 305 to me. Unless you checked the back of the block its a 305. Dont take everything xou are told to be fact.

Good work on paint. Was the car frame straight? No rust on the floors? I would of stripped the interior and done the inside as well.

Re: 91 camaro resurrection

Im 99% sure its a 350, i guess ill find out in the spring. The only rust on ther car was on the pass. side door. Frame was all good. The radiator support was bent a bit, but that was no big deal to fix.

Strip the interior for what reason? Clean it.

Re: 91 camaro resurrection

If I had a penny for every time someone said their TBI 305 was a 350...

Somehow every small block Chevy becomes a 350 when a car is for sale. That's why it's a good idea to verify for yourself. GM never offered a 350 with TBI in our cars.

Chalk up another one here...can't tell you how many times I've heard "oh yeah, it's a 350" and then it turns out to be a 305.

At any rate, the car looks great -- the IROC hood is a nice touch, guess I never noticed that other Camaros didn't have the inset scoops. Should look a whole lot better when the ground effects go back on.

Car looks great! I'm a sucker for an orange third gen. I'm painting my TA flame orange metallic. Can't wait to see yours finished with the ground fx on and all. Should look killer.

As far as the engine, it's most likely a 305 but hey it's still a V8, and they can move good with a little work and tuning up. Keep us updated on the project.

Car looks great, but definitely swap those tires out...they are way too tall/wide for those little rims.

Get the GFX painted yet?

i use my phone to take these pics so they arnt the best. but i got the sides and the front chin ground effect on, i thing the black looks good.
im still waiting for the rear to be finished but once it is im gonna order disk brakes and knew tires and wheels. i got five tires that were brand new for free so i stuck them on the back. i no it dosent look the best with them on
i need to but the lower door moldings or ground effects because, they cracked when instaling them. then just paint the bumper again and the exterior is perdy much finished.
