time and sunlight were the biggest enemies of our dash pads. as they age the material looses its pliability and becomes brittle and can crack, usually from cold temp related contraction. I've had 'perfect' dash pads crack when the car was stored in the garage and garage temp got into the 40's.
do not expect any used dash pad to last if subjected to lower temps. there are aftermarket versions available that may be a better option today, especially considering the high$ someone wants for an original.
