Paint carpet?
I have a red carpet from the junkyard and I have grey/black int. and it looks realy tacky, theres pics in my cardomain 2nd page. But thats all I could find and dont have money for new carpet and junkyards have not had many 3rd gens with grey/black int. What im getting at is I was thinking of painting the red rear carpet black whould this look good and does the paint come off over time?

Try it for 20 bux and you decide, just take advice here of those who have done it and brush it or whatever they say. I have not tried it yet. Ya may need 40 bux in paint, I don't know.

I only paid like $6 for it so I might just paint it not losing much but if I paint it it will be just temporary ontill the junkyard gets a 3rd gen with black or grey int. They have a 85 bird in there right now with black int and the rear carpet is still there but its in very bad cond. not worth it

I've been considering the same thing for some time now, but I have read a lot of posts saying not to do it. If I had a spare "junk" carpet I would give it a shot, but I only have one. Sorry I'm not much help, but if you do give this a try, please let us know how it turns out. Then post again in two months to let us know if it holds up, lol.
Would it be ok to spray paint the carpet if it is already black. I just bought a carpet from the junkyard but it is faded in some areas so I figured I would just give it a little touch up with the spray paint. Good idea or not?

Doing somethign as radical as painting a red carpet black isn't likely to look good for long. You'll wind up with a nasty looking mess once the black starts to wear off, but more importantly, it'll take a TON of paint, which will go on thick, cake up, and just look terrible.
Touching up a black carpet with black paint is likely to work a lot better, because once it starts to come off, you really won't notice much, and you can cover it with one or two light coats instead of a hundred heavy coats. I've done it with floor mats in the past and I've had reasonably good results.
Make sure you buy fabric paint, and put it on in a lot of light coats, otherwise it'll look like hell. After you paint it once or twice, the paint won't look as good either, so keep in mind that this is purely a temporary solution and not something that you'll be able to do once a month.
Oh yeah... make sure the carpet is out of the car when you do this. I had a friend spray-bomb his carpet right in place, and he got the paint on EVERYTHING.

a friend of mine tried to paint his carpet in his truck and it looked like crap.
for one you will need to brush through the carpet so that you get all fibers, two it will dust up anytime you touch it, 3 you will need at least 5+ cans just to do an area the size of the rear hatch.
but on the other hand I have an Idea that I haven't tried myself, but maybe since you have the carpet out, you could get some "RIT" die thats used on cloth. at least it might last and look right. mix it as directed on package and put it in a spray bottle and use some kind of brush to help get it into the fibers real good. after you have covered the entire carpet, if its not to big you might be able to take the carpet to a coin laundrymat and wash it in one of those really big washers.
if I were to attemp to chang the color of my carpet this would be the method I would try.
