There's a screw under the cigarette tray and two at the back end, this removes the shifter plate. In the storage compartment remove two bolts at the bottom and then there's another bolt just behind the shifter, you need to remove the shifter plate to see this. Removing the radio plate will make it easier to pull the console out too.

Re: Removing Center Console

Remove the shift plate screws(two at the rear of the plate by the storage compartment and one underneath the ashtray); remove shift ****; lift the shift plate carefully(cause the cig lighter will make it seem like it won't come off, and you don't wanna break anything), unplug the lighter and any electric switches and lights(fragile items), then remove the plate.

Remove the two small bolts from the rear of the inside of the storage compartment(pic) and remove the large bolt from the steel bracket that spans from side-to-side inside of the console(pic). And that's it, but it might still feel stuck if your radio pod is still in place.

Lift the back of the console up so you can slide the front out from underneath the radio pod. It's a very, very tight fit, but just be careful and persistent, wiggle it back and forth, and it'll come out.

Re: Removing Center Console

So there is no bolts holding it on in front (under stereo)? I just do not want to break anything.....again! These parts are so fragile. I will do as you illustrated and hope the wiggle tech works. I will also pop the stereo trim piece off and remove the bolts that hold in the stereo for more control (hopefully). Will try tomorrow during lunch. Thanx for the help!!

Re: Removing Center Console

Once you get the shift plate off and can see in there, you'll know immediately if there's a bolt in front or not. But it's been a long time, and I honestly can't remember if there is or not. It kinda seems like there might be though. This pic is of a spare console I have laying around for future needs, so it's not bolted into the car for me to tell.

You can see there's a slot where a bolt might go, and that's the only place one could go, if there's one. But you'll know it when you get down to this point, way before you start trying to pull the console out.

And remember, like you said, the parts are fragile, so don't lift too much or you might break the bottom of the radio pod. Just lift it enough to get a good angle for a straightout slide, if that makes any sense.

Hmm, never noticed that "Reason for Editing" feature before, lol, but it posts the edit in tiny print way at the bottom of the post. So here it is again... the round hole is where the bolt that fits underneath the ashtray goes, bolting the shift plate to the console.

Re: Removing Center Console

There's no bolt under the radio pod. If there was, you'd have to remove the pod to get at it, and you definitely don't have to remove the pod to get the console out.

If you've already got the shift plate completely off, then it'll look like the last pic I posted, but maybe with a bolt through that slot. You'll know immediately.

But if it's the shift plate you're having problems getting off of the console, it's prolly cause of the cig lighter. That part can be a PITA.

Re: Removing Center Console

LAFireboyd, the "wiggle" worked!! Removed the stereo trim piece as well, made it a little easier. Last owner who changed the carpet didn't even hook up the trans shifter light, had to dig in the console wiring to find it...found it, changed the bulb and now I see the light!!

Re: Removing Center Console

I just completed a carpet replacement/leather seat install (I'll post pics of my install later) which involved removing the center console. What a pain in the ***! The console was the hardest part of the job.

Anyway, I have a stick shift, so it may be a liittle different if you have an auto. I also did it with the seats removed (which as easy) Here is what I did.

1. Removed all of the torx bolts for the shift boot. Remove the shifter **** and boot.
2. Removed all of the torx bolts for the console itself and the stereo face plate.
3. Removed the cover for the storage area.
4. Removed the parking brake handle.
5. Removed all of the bolts inside the storage area (I think there are 6 or 7)
6. Removed the bolts near the shifter attaching the carpeted part to the center hump of the chassis.
6. At this point, I can lift the console up, but still can't remove it. It won't clear the parking brake.
7. In order to get it to clear, I had to remove the panel under the steering wheel (4 torx bolts if I remember right). At this point, I could wiggle it enough to clear, but it still was a pain to get out, both for the black plastic part and the carpeted part.
