Hit a pot hole and broke my hatch motor........
Well I was out last night and hit a huge *** pot hole. I didnt think much of it after I got out and checked my wheels to find no damage. But then when I get back in the car I notice the door shuts MUCH easier. I took off down the road and when I hit a bump I could see my spoiler hop up and down in my rear view mirror. So I got out and checked it and sure enough that bump broke my hatch motor. The latch itself goes up and down fine. Once its up you cant push it back down. But I can manually press the switch and the motor will go down but I can pull it back up by hand. Could anyone please tell me what broke and what I need to do to fix it? I havent delt with the PPD hatch motors much but I think I can figure it out. Thanks everyone!
PS: The motor is from an 88 model year car.

Sounds like the plastic housing is broke where the 3 screws mount the housing to the trunk area.

There's a moderator here at tgo who sells the whole kits or various pieces to fix up the motor better than new. His name's lonsal, and he owns top down solutions. If you're looking to fix up the part better than new he's probably the guy to go to. Having said that, I just drilled two holes through a junkyard part, ran a couple of bolts through the whole thing and said to heck with the motor. latches solid and no more cruddy plastic parts breaking.

lonsal ftw! He can hook you up with anything you need for the repair.
I had the same thing happen to me. One good shock and the thing shattered. Mine didnt break at the 3 screws...the entire clear plastic thing shattered. I just rebuilt it too... After taht, I made sure my bumpers for the hatch were adjusted right, so that the hatch couldnt slam down on the motor assembly over bumps.

As stated by others here in this thread, I sell all the parts you'll need to rebuild your pull-down motor better than new. Also take a look at the tech article I wrote on this web site or the instructions for the 101170 nylon guides (download them from the "Documentation" section on the lower right-hand side of my site). The links over there--->
