How to repair dash frame

My 89 IROC's dash frame has a crack developing near the center AC vents. I know have noticed that this crack has traveled along another stress point on the frame. My interior is mint condition other than this crack. Can it be repaired and with what, epoxy? Is this a common problem?

is it around the ac vents?, cause I have that exact same crack on my 89, and my interior is mint to except for that small little crack which just appeared one day

Yes it is. I looked at an 87 convertible a while back and it had the same crack.

Re: How to repair dash frame

If the piece you are referring to is the metal support that runs underneath the dash from end to end, the 90-92 style dash has a completely different one. you would need one for like 82-89. if the plastic dash itself is cracked, you may be better off replacing it as a whole instead of just gluing it up, if you interior is indeed mint. any dash from 82-89 should work fine. what i would do is get just a bare plastic dash shell from a junkyard, without the hvac ducting or wiring or anything, and pull yours out, and transfer all the wiring to the new dash, then put that one in. might sound dumb to pull the wiring only to put it right back in, but trust me i did a dash swap in my car and it was a PITA to get in with the wiring and all still in the car. GM assembled the dashes as units with wires and switches etc and then put it in the car as a whole. makes it a whole lot easier, plus you won't hafta worry so much about pinching wires when trying to maneuver the new dash around the wires. just my 2 cents

Re: How to repair dash frame

Didn't expect any more responses on this, thanks. Good advice.
I did a dumb thing and bought an IROC dash from a vendor a long time ago but he didn't state the year. Got it home, left it sitting for six months and then went to install it. Its for a 90 or so and would not be correct for my car. Now it's been so long the guy wouldn't take it back. My fault really, though I wish at the time he had stated the year it fitted. I was new to third gens at the time and had no clue.
You wouldn't know anyone who would like a 90 to I assume 92 dash frame?
Is the interior mint. I had my car at a local shop for alignment and when the service writer handed me back the keys to my 2007 Camaro he said it was, I looked confused. He then smiled and said it looks like it's brand new.
lot of work in it.

Re: How to repair dash frame

It might be better and easier for you to find someone local to buy that from you. Reason being is the dash is kinda bulky and pricey to ship. if it is just a frame, however, without wiring and such it could sell in the classifieds here. by chance, do you have the gauge cluster for it, and also what speed does it go to if ya do?

Re: How to repair dash frame

i got the same crack on my 89, it on the left side of my center A/C vent goes from the top down to the underside all the way to the dash.......so there is no easy way to fix this without replace the whole dash that is perfect other than that

Re: How to repair dash frame

Just a bare frame not even an emblem. I'll list it again and see what happens.GWW

Looked closer and I can see that the crack is now proceeding downward on the dash. I wonder if the lack of sub frame connectors and T-tops causes this. Saw it in a vert though and they have those frame connectors down the sides.
