Re: Legendary Dash Pad

To my suprise most of the foam stayed intact, I was going to experiment with it but it sat out in the rain and snow for the last 2 weeks and I don't know if I want to mess with it anymore

It would seem to me as though it is not what you put on the pad itself, but the actual foam underneath that cracks which causes the top layer in turn to crack.

How would you renew the foam underneath or how would you keep it from cracking?

Find a auto upholstery shop or supply store, and get some landau top foam.It is a real firm foam for landau top's and will hold up to just about anything. You will have to do a couple of pieces on it,as this foam is only 1/4'' thick. But you will have to get all the old foam off before you do this.

Brother all it is is foam, the only metal part is for the speaker grilles so that idea won't work. I need to find something such as expanding foan, spray it on, and sand it down to the original shape I think I'll buy a used pad.

It will work,I have done 3 dashes that way and they turned out great.
There is a fiber core or metal in the middle of the foam,or atleast the 3 I did had the fiber/metal in the center.

Re: Legendary Dash Pad

I have an idea. Can you just coat the old foam in some sort of filler(foam, plastic, etc), sand it smooth/to the right shape, then fiberglass it to better protect it? and THEN re wrap it in vinyl? And Im guessing keeping it armorall-ed would keep it soft and from getting hard and cracking again. Just an idea
