recarpeting interior panels

Ever notice that on the kick panels, the carpet has this "seam" sewn into it around the edges that you see, about 1/8" wide? Im trying to think of a way to do this myself, or at least somehow seal the edges so the carpet doesnt fray or anything over time. Am I over doing this, or has anyone else tried this?

I pulled an intact piece off at the junkyard in nice shape. If you are using custom carpeting I am sure you could do this yourself. I've never used a sewing machine, but if you built that car in your sig, I'm sure you could figure it out!

Check some carpet or upholstery shops in your area. You should be able to find someone that will put that seam on the small pieces of carpet for you for a small amount of change.

Re: recarpeting interior panels

well I built the motor, yes. but I got grease monkey hands that dont work to well with little fabric jobs

Im probably gonna have to take it to an upholstery shop. I got all the pieces cut and fittin pretty good, but all the ends where I cut are already fraying out and leaving bits of carpet all over the place! I was trying to think of some kind of thick0like string I could use to border the pieces, but Im thinkin its gonna look tacky as hell like that.

Re: recarpeting interior panels

you just need to sear the edges to prevent fraying, if you are careful doing it, it wont be noticable at all.

Re: recarpeting interior panels

Run a lighter along the edge to slightly burn it.
