3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
There are some 4th gen leather seats out of a '97 Camaro for sale near me. Actually I'd like some input from those that have changed theirs. Whats better and whats worse?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
4Th Gen seats are 100% better than any stock 3rd gen seats. Cloth or leather 4th gem seats look good comfortable. My opinion and I have 95 Z28 seats in my 87 IROC-Z.

I too prefer the feel of 3rd gen seats, in most cases anyway.

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
i have the same seats in my 87 as DJP, just a bit more dirtier.
the advantages of upgrading to 4th gen seats that i've noticed is that there is more bolster support. i've also heard they're a good bit lighter than 3rd gen seats as well.
what i think would be perfect, would be to put a set of 3rd gen seat covers, on the 4th gen seats. look stock, upgraded performance.

The 4th gen Firebird seat has a seperate headrest while the Camaro's isn't. I swapped to '01 leather T/A seats and love them.

I swapped my 3rd Gen cloth for 4th Gen Leather out of a 99 Firebird. The new seats are 100% better. They are more comfortable and I got electric seats out fo the deal.
IMO they look a lot better too.

4th gen seats are much more sturdy than the 3rd gen seats. I had my original coth base seats in my car, cloth deluxe seats in my car, and now I have 2002 Trans Am leather seats. I can say that the 4th gen seats are by far the best looking and feeling.

Check out my thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...gen-seats.html
I changed mine from stock cloth to the 4th gen 30th edition leather seats and they are much better then the stock 3rd gen cloth ones.

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
I have owned a 1979 T/A, 84 Z-28, 1989 Formula and a 1996 T/A. The seats in the 96 T/A were awesome. If I found a set cheap would they bolt in very easily into a 1989 Formula?

This past summer i put cloth seats out of a 97 transam into my 92 camaro and they look and feel so much better. They seem to hold you in, like a racing seat does.

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
The seller sent me some pics of them: these are the 30th anniversary seats in black
The drivers seat has some slight wear signs on the left bolster. Well I'm gonna take a look at these.
Whats the price that a seat set would usually go for?

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
Guess I'm lucky in that my GTA has the Ultima seats which are what the 4thgen TransAm seats are based on.
So many adjustments you almost need a manual for them seperately.

Swapped out the leather ultimas in the GTA for some 4th gen leather
My 3 other 3rd gens got similar treatments

I installed 95 Camaro leather into my 82, LOVED them. Infact I do believe that they sat a little bit lower than the stock seats, I am 6' 3" and I fit into the car better.

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
Thanks.
I think they make the car look more expensive...
Just one question. whats the deal in keeping the 3rd gen seattracks? can I keep those little plastic pieces in front and rear of the tracks?

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
3rd gen racks have an extra hole for the plastic pieces to screw to
4th gen racks do not, but some have plastic covers on top of the rack that do a similar job

Racks, some 3rd gens got the option too
Both gens used the same 2 handle style
Some 4th gen TA seats had a movable pad, the part under your thighs
This is built into the seat thou

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
I too am getting ready to toss out the 3rd gen seats and install my 4th gen leather seats.
I HATE the interior on my 91, it's white/ALL RED interior, which is TOO much red!!
I bought a wrecked 2002 SS and sold everything but the interior (graphite leather w/15K miles) and am going to take out the red ones, and add the grey. I think it will look 100X's better. I'll get some pics up ASAP!!

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
Hello All,
I wanted to know, I have power seats, do the plugs match or I have to splice and rewire in order to work. I love the way these seats look, plan on getting some tan leather one into my IROC. Also are the rears split in 4th gens since that is what I have in mine.

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
The rears are split I do not know about the plug...
The plug is different, either splice or buy a 2 pin plug from advance
If you get the seat harness (goes between the seats with the lumbar tubes) you only have to splice into the 2 wires at the end of the harness
Orange and black
If you do not buy the harness with the seats, then you are on your own for wiring it up

Thats not a big issue about the rears beeing not split. How many times did you have to fold them down anyway?

Re: 3rd gen cloth vs. 4th gen leather seats
All of this seat talk has me thinking - is there any clothing in particular that sticks to leather?
I ended up throwing in some BMW seats into my Firebird last year. They're nice, comfortable, power everything (height, front to back, tilt, recline, bolster...you name it), but they don't hold me exceptionally well. I'm not sliding around, just don't feel too secure. Any ideas, should I paint myself with latex?

thanks, I planned on taking everything from the donor car, especially the wiring. But if worst comes to worst your instructions are pretty good in explaining how to create your own harness. thanks again for your help Ozz1967.
