Re: dash pad
Ah, the GM mark of excellence. Good luck. Seriously. As far as I know, no one makes a repro. All "new" ones are new old stock that have been sitting in a warehouse for anyone knows how long. Used ones go through the same stress as the one on your car that cracked, and will likely crack as well. I put baby oil on mine whenever I cleaned the interior, but as soon as hit winter, bam. Crack right up the center.
People who have show-quality cars generally keep one pad that goes on at the show, and then another pad to actually keep on the car. If you do find a repro, let me know.

Re: dash pad
if u had priced a 3rd gen around the north florida area they are already realy collectable.. camaros sell higher then the firebirds and trans ams though seem to be more birds the ros around... recently been seein alot of 3rd gen show cars come through the area.. they have had leather covered or vinyl covered dash pads and realy custome interiors i kinda want that original look so i hope one of the oem reproducers gets busy soon and gets us some repro parts.. ;-)

Re: dash pad
yeah blackhawk, seems like a market there if you read all the threads here. And yeah ghost, these are collectible...I think it's fairly early in it, but the good ones are going up in price. If I knew how to do it(repros), I would myself, try to make some money. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard, not like there's anything mechanical/moving parts in the caps. And the covers could almost certainly be better material than what was available back then - UV protection, etc. Baby oil - huh, hadn't heard that. I started using Turtlewax F21 with UV protection for the trim stuff. But I think the bigger problem is probably temp extremes, especially the heat. Just guessing though.

Re: dash pad
A while back I posted if anyone had tried one of these but didn't receive a reply.
From Classic Industries part number 12511119 for 82-92 camaro lists for $349.
Quote
"Replace your original warped or worn out dash pad with a high quality OER® reproduction padded dash. Each dash will install correctly as your original."
Once I hear from someone whose tried one I probably will step up if the review is favorable.

Re: dash pad
At $350 you might be waiting a while. Especially from Classic Industries. I hear about their plastic parts not fitting at all most of the time.

Re: dash pad
I gotta kinda agree with that, unless it's something I can't find anywhere else. I think they must cater to folks who know exactly what they need, don't need a pic to confirm what they think they're buying. I'm new to this, so I gotta look. Plus, for the prices they charge, you'd think they would do more pics, have a nicer site.

Re: dash pad
Classic Industries has a crap website, true, but if you get their catalog in the mail it will more than adequate. Plenty of pictures and is about 1200 pages. I love them and their parts and have never had an issue with fitment. I recently bought the coolant overflow and windshield washer bottles and they looked and fit great. Seemed to be NOS parts. I also ordered the t-top weatherstripping from them and it was great. So long as you follow the directions and use common sense when installing it. Also have an ABS plastic headliner on order and will hopefully be putting that in at the end of the week or this weekend. I will let you know how that goes if you are still interested in Classic Industries quality.

Re: dash pad
Thanks creep, appreciate that input. Sounds like the catalogue is the way to go. I'd rather get decent parts from a reliable place. Bought a NOS lighter from someone, advertised as new, but sure didn't look it. Contacted them, was told it came in a bulk pack(wasn't in an individual wrapper) etc. Ate it, but wasn't particularly happy, and I liked that vendor. Similar situation with a Chevy dealer selling OEM parts on Ebay, many discontinued or soon to be. Almost everything was perfect, but I bought a new grill, clearcoat on it was crap, sent it back, was told that they were all like that, I could get my money back, or have my part back. I had spent a lot of money with them, not to mention shipping. You never know. Be nice to have someone reliable. Glad you stuck up for them.

Re: dash pad
I actually have their catalog, and it is lacking a picture of the dash pad. And included in the description is the 79-81 dash pad. Really confusing.
Oh, and FWIW, the ABS headliners sag in the front because they don't have the clips that the factory headliners do. The sail panels hold on with velcro. A lot of the OER stuff sucks.

It's like, aftermarket carpet, door panels, and seat covers are AMAZING. Aftermarket sail panels, headliners, and sun visors SUCK. >.< It really makes no sense.

Re: dash pad
I've lived in chicago all my life through harsh winters and found the trick to keep you're dashboard pad from cracking is to use meguires natural shine interior protectant. It's like armor all but it's a much better product. It conditions the pad without leaving it greasy. My Iroc and my formula pads are original and still have no cracks in them. but I still have an extra mint condition dash pad just in case. which I aslo condition at least twice a year to keep it good condtion.
Re: dash pad
I haven't used this place personally. But ever since finding the website, I've wanted to send my dash-pad to them. Take a look. I'd love to find someone with personal experience.

Holy Mary Mother of JESUS!
Just gave 'em a ring, and you won't BELIEVE what they want to restore that dash pad. You won't believe it at all. I still can't believe that the lady on the other end of the phone just dropped $550 on me. And then you have to ship it there. EEEK!
