Headlight dimmer rod

One thing i noticed about my car when i got it was that it never made that typical click noise you get when you put on your highbeams..nor did the highbeams work. So i noticed the dimmer switch was out of adjustment so i fixed it..it worked for about two clicks then the lever went "limp". The rod assembly at the switch on the column has come loose and i dont understand how it goes back together..i removed the little access panel to the rod assembly (where your tilt lever is) and i can cleary see the rod and this plastic, kind of wrench shaped piece. I just cant figure out how it goes back together though. Can anyone help me out?
