Rear Hatch pull down and rear courtesy light have no power! Any advice please?
Rear Hatch pull down and rear courtesy light have no power! Any advice please?
Guys,
We fitted a new TDS hatch pull down unit tonight but
can't get it to work. I've tried the new relays and
the old ones. I've pulled the fuses under the
dashboard and still things aren't working.
The two wires that come from the loom to the motor
have no voltage when I connect the multimeter. The
courtesy light always won't come on. Are there any
other relays or fuses further forward that I should
check? Do you know where the loom wires come from?
Any advice you can give me as regards what to check
would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Dr G / Gordon

I've already replied to your e-mail, but for the benefit of others online I'll post it here too. The red with white stripe wire is the constant +12v power source for the pull-down unit. Since you've said you checked all your fuses in the fuse panel I'll assume you own a Firebird. On Camaro the fuse for the pull-down unit is a 15 amp in the top row, third colmn from the left. On Firebird the 15 amp fuse for the pull-down unit is NOT in the fuse panel. It is in a separate fuse holder that is attached to the outside of the fuse panel. At least it should still be attached to the fuse panel. The fuse holder can slip off of the fuse panel, so if it isn't still attached to the fuse panel you'll need to hunt for it.

Lon,
Thanks for the replies! I'll change the fuse - I didn't realise the Firebird had it in a separate holder.
Best wishes,
Gordon

Lon, I found the other fuse that you directed me to, and yep it was the culprit. I replaced it and immediately had power and the hatch pull down mechanism worked perfectly and came down no problem.
When I then went to release it, it wouldn't pop. I cleaned and lubed everything and now it works after two or three attempts - I wonder if the solenoid is a little weak or if the unit just needs used again a few times to loosen up?
Many thanks again for all your help and for supplying me the new unit. Your service has been fantastic.
