Steering Wheel Replacement

I've got a '90 IROC that needs to have the steering wheel replaced. How do I replace the air-bag equipped wheel with an aftermarket? Is it possible? What about the air-bag wires?

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement

its doable, may fail for inspection if they realize it origionally had a bag however. As far as the bag you can solder in a resistor in series to keep the light out.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement

You just buy the hub for an 82-89 Camaro. Pull the SIR fuse. Then remove the stock steering wheel and then remove the the SIR coil (be careful not to break it if you ever plan on putting the stock wheel back on). Then follow the directions that came with the hub and steering wheel. If you want the airbag light to go away, pull the cluster out and remove the light bulb.

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know what the resistor size needs to be?

Re: Steering Wheel Replacement

There's no need to use a resistor, I've never even heard that before. Just pull the fuse and bulb. That way you can easily re-enable the system later if you need to put the stock steering wheel back on.
