Help w/ Hatch latch please

Hi all, I just bought my first GTA yesterday. It is an 89 with the electric hatch opener. It will not latch though. The motor works fine and so does the switch, but the actual u-shaped latch won't lock into the mechanism. The locking mechanism also works and movers freely. It seems they are just not matching up or something..Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Andy

Re: Help w/ Hatch latch please

Is the latch not closing? Is the motor moving the latch up & own? Or are they not even meeting each other to latch?

The motor is going up and down fine. I think the latch on the hatch lid just isn't meeting where it needs to hook up. I tried again today but just can't figure it out.

Re: Help w/ Hatch latch please

You probably need to take that plastic panel off the *** end in your trunk, loosen the 3? bolts and slide the hatch mechanisim up.

its not hard to do at all.

after so many years of hard pounding it might have worked its way down.

Re: Help w/ Hatch latch please

Ive got a crazy question. I just bought a 89 Camaro and didn't get any door or trunk keys. I popped the lock and when I opened the hatch and removed the tail panel in the trunk area I found an actuator/motor... how do you actuate the trunk release from inside the car? Thank you for any help you may be able to give. Jason
