STRIPPED DASH PAS SCREWS!! HELP!

Yet another question fellas. My scews in my dash pad on the underneath lip seem to rattle loose and some even fall out. the insides of the dash pad where the screws go into is stripped out and was need to know what type of thin rubber washers to use and how to fix the insides so the screws will again hold.

Use some #10 wood screws with washers, you can paint them black and no one will notice.

The screw itself is larger, should take up the slack in the current openings...just get the correct length as your old one's and you'll be ok.

Re: STRIPPED DASH PAS SCREWS!! HELP!

#8 screws will probably work, mine were not stripped, but i replaced them with #8's and they fit very snug. Grad some of each and see what works.

DO NOT USE WOOD SCREWS!!!!!! they are tapered and usually have a un-threaded shaft before the head. hmmmmm that sounded bad

use sheet metal screws, im using panhead stainless screws with the matching stainless washers. I've replaces almost every screw that i even removed with stainless Phillips heads. That way i can pull most of the interior apart with a single screwdriver.

1/2" or a little longer will be fine. Most of mine are 3/4"

the factory screws have a smaller diameter, they are metric, so maybe something like a #7 of there was such a thing. A #8 is just a tad bigger and a #10 is much larger, probably too big and may require you to drill out the holes a little just to install them.

YOU'LL PROBABLY HAVE TO PAINT THEM, BUT I SUGGEST THAT WHATEVER YOU USE, WRAP A LITTLE TEFLON TAPE AROUND THE THREADS AND THAT SHOULD KEEP THEM FROM VIBRATING LOOSE.

Yep, the stuff is almost perfect for things like that. I hope you get it all back together and don't have to worry about screws falling in your lap anymore.

Re: STRIPPED DASH PAS SCREWS!! HELP!

yea, you will probably to paint the screws, it hard to find black finished screws that dont cost a fortune.

Not sure how teflon tape would work, but i have no experience with that.

Re: STRIPPED DASH PAS SCREWS!! HELP!

The biggest problem with using teflon tape for things like that is over tightening. The tape will only accept so much torque and then you are back to square one. Just tighten them snug and they should do just fine.

Re: STRIPPED DASH PAS SCREWS!! HELP!

Alright thanks, from what ive heard here and some other friends i say i should use #8 screws for bigger diameter, and between the pad and the dash bezel i im going to put thin felt strips to have a cushion to tightin down into.
