Re: round shifter **** swap
Auto- use a flat head to pop out the staple like pin on the front of the shifter
Manual - simply, righty tighty lefty loosey

Re: round shifter **** swap
Found this, maybe it'll help

Quote:
First remove the button off the top of the **** you should be able to pull it out with your hand. Second there is a tiny snap ring down in the hole get that off. Last but not least pull up on the **** ball and it should come right off if not give it some umph with both hands on each side and hit it up as if your hands were a hammer had to do it a few times.

Re: round shifter **** swap
You will only be able to replace it with another ball type shift ****.If you want to install a newer square type shift **** you will have to replace the entire shifter assembly with one from an 87 and up camaro or 84? and up firebird

Re: round shifter **** swap
I was thinking about modifying the stock shifters to make them able to accept the Hurst and B&M shifter ***** and replacing the steel shafts with polished Stainless was thinking about aluminum but am leaning more towards Stainless. This sound like a good idea to anyone? It involves getting some stuff machined so not an easy project but since you guys are talking about shifters anyway.
