Surely this has come up many times before, but since I'm fairly new to this forum, I'll ask again. Was working on my brothers 89' Z-28 over the holidays and the interior arm rest vynil is shrinking/delaminating from the frame. He bought a brand new(NOS) pair sealed in the original boxes from 1989 and don't look much better. I was thinking, roughing up the exposed seperated surfaces, injecting urethane adheasive and clamping between some metal plates. Am I on the right track, or is something better. Talk of a heat gun was entertianed, but that usaully shrink's plastic's futher.

 

My armrests were in bad shape and i took them in to an upholstery shop and he put them in front of a propane or kerosene space heater to heat them up and get the material pliable. then stretched the material back over the frame and stapled it back where you cant see it when installed on the door. They look great now.

A regular staple gun will not work, an air powered one will

The same things happen to the consoles and lower dash trim on '85-'92 birds

Be careful about heating these up, so not to blister the vynil

Sound's like a plan. We'll get them out to an upholstery shop in a few days. Hopefully it will turn out better than the worn out NOS stuff.
