84 Z-28 interior door panel - I have removed the armrest and removed the mounting screws for the black plastic cover (over the door handle, elec door lock switch and manual doorlock slide) - I can pull it out about a half inch from the upholstery panel - how do I remove/loosen/detach the manual doorlock slide so I can remove the plastic panel - I am tugging and pulling, but there is apparently a trick or method to unhook the doorlock rod so I can remove the panel without breaking it? HELP ! Thanks.

Re: door panel removal question
With all the tugging and pulling you've already done, I'm surprised you haven't accidently figured it out already.

But you won't be removing the rod, itself. The black/red plastic "slider" is just a piece of trim on the end of the rod, and that's what you'll be removing. And it simply "snaps" onto the rod. The rod is "L" shaped on the end(like the plastic piece), and that's why the piece seems hard to remove. So just pry up the front edge of that piece, and then you'll be able to pop it off completely.

Re: door panel removal question
slide a tiny flat screwdriver between the lock rod and the trim piece. youll have to pull the trim panel away from the door a little bit to do it. itll just pop off.
