on my 85 trans am i cant find out how to get the rear hatch open. there is no tumbler and i hooked up a battery to the harness and can get all guages to work but i cant find the trunk button and if it was one of the buttons i pushed it didnt work. what do i do now.

 

Climb into the hatch area, and remove the hatch light. Once it's out of the way, you can see the latch mechanism. It's hard to describe, but there's a small lever you can push to the side with a screwdriver and release the hatch. Just look around in there, it should be fairly obvious. I don't remember which way it needs to go, but it moves side-to-side, so if nothing else just poke around and try to move every piece of the latch you can see until you find it.

 

ill try to squeeze back there but im 6'4 and 302 lbs. should be fun

 

Haha, yeah, it's a pretty tight fit. Also, come to think of it, it might be the hatch light switch that has to come out, and not the light itself. It's been a while since I had to do it, when I bought my car last year the latch didn't work.
