steering column help
I have 1991 camaro 5 speed and need to put a whole new steering column in it. The junk yards are telling me that the 5 speed cars and automatic cars have different part numbers. I want to know is there a difference? If so what is it and will an automatic steering column fit in a stick shift car? Thanks

Re: steering column help
why do you need to switch you steering column? Everything can be replaced on them. you may be making more work for yourself.

Re: steering column help
the person I bought it off of didnt have the keys and yanked on the steering wheel until the lock broke. when I took it off to fix it he had messed up the shaft bearing, the plastic cover and the turn signal switch. So I figured it would be cheaper to replace the column

Re: steering column help
main differance is the way the key is prevented from going to the lock position. the automatic uses a cable attached to the shifter. the manual uses a tab next the lock cylinder. the automatic column will fit and work but you will be able to lock the column without pushing the tab.
